March 14 2014: I will not have access to a computer from today until March 21 -- I will attend to SACs immediately after that date.|
"Do not regret growing old. It is a privilege denied to many."
I grew up in central Missouri where my ancestors settled, most from KY; I often return and photograph country cemeteries and haunt the library reference departments. Looking for gravestones for my Wells, Hazlewood/Hazelwood, Lane/Lain, Thoroughman/Thurman, Bellamy/Bellomy, Stayton, Pullen/Pullin/Pulliam, Gregg/Gragg, Rigg, Page families; others include Dunning, Gant, Payne, Settles/Suttle(s), Sudduth, Stoneking, Stewart, Shelten, Stoll.
A goal is to ensure there are memorials for all known burials in the "country" cemeteries in the Bates/Cass/Henry counties where my ancestors lived and are interred, and am photo indexing as many as I can - some are in woeful condition. Too many are now in cow pastures, vandalized or stones used in barn foundations. May those with so little respect for our ancestors be haunted by their ghosts.
Corrections, updates and link requests are welcomed so "our" memorials are informative and accurate -- please send maiden names if you know them. Every person has a story - hopefully memorial managers who prefer not to update or correct their memorials will transfer them to the requesting family member/friend to maintain and add the story -- or there will be a software update that allows third parties to contribute to memorials. Thanks to all the administrators who make the site available and user-friendly, and to the many great volunteers who make "finding Grandma" possible. Special thanks to photo volunteers who spend hours searching for lost grave markers, sometimes in overgrown, tick and snake infested, unkept, unmarked cemeteries.
You are welcome to use information or grave marker photos I have entered. If you do a copy/paste of a memorial with a bio, please copy the entire memorial which includes my name, date entered and the memorial number at the very bottom -- a LOT of time and research has gone into many of these memorials. Please do not copy/post my "people" photographs on sponsored pages.
Please make your edit/transfer requests from the "edit" link of the memorial and not from the profile page which I don't view often. I generally don't transfer memorials with researched bios, nor do I transfer to requesters who are rude/demanding, have no profile or who are collectors -- but I'll always update and link memorials within a day or two if not traveling.
Note - Had nerve injury in left arm/hand, 2010 surgery; smashed left hand in door 2011, broke two fingers; broke left wrist in 2012 - typos during each recovery process - please call them to my attention. 2013 - nerve damage prevents holding a camera, so my enjoyable hobby of photo-indexing cemeteries is over. Am using that time to enhance and link memorials.
When entering information from census records I use the spelling as it appears, even knowing it is wrong -- those aren't typos.
Happy graving - and remember to thank our Veterans and Active Service men and women.

I did find Beacha and Pansy. I'll be posting soon. There was a service yesterday and it's possible his marker was under the awning and carpet. I'll go by and check asap.

I checked farther and found that Albert and Mattie Driggs plot is 208.5D 255.5C 01 & 02. Minnie Abney 208.5D 255.5C 04 doesn't have a headstone. Isibel West 208.5D 255.5C 05 has no headstone. And John William 208.5D 255.5C 06 has no headstone.

Once this long winter is over and the ground hardens I'll be getting back into the cemeteries. Will try to see if I can locate the headstone if isn't a photo by then. Take care, Whitney

Hi, I do appreciate you contacting me. I have been going through death certs. from 1915 in Henry County Missouri. Found several not listed and then linked them to family members. Find a Grave is a nice sight when looking for someone, if they are listed. Thanks again, Vickie

Thank you so much for your reply and information. I really appreciate it as I have very little information on my 3rd great grandmother. Thanks again!

I have been searching for months for his grandfather and grandmother (paternal), and so are a lot of other people. Does anyone know who they were? Three of Joseph and Elizabeth Gabbert Hisey's children show on 1880 census records that BOTH PARENTS were born in VA.
But cannot find a Hisey in VA circa 1765 who was the father of Joseph, who married Elizabeth Sept. 29, 1798 in Augusta County and a good search by a reliable friend found no Will or Deed or anything with a Hisey surname circa 1700's in Augusta Co., VA.
