Bio Photo My name is Vickie. I grew up in Swannanoa, N.C. and now I live in Asheville. I enjoy researching family history and walking through cemeteries to read stones. Everyone deserves to be remembered. Someone somewhere loved them. Thanks to the great contributors here at Find a Grave, I have been able to see the graves of many family members that I would have never seen if it wasn't for their generosity. It is so nice to be able to visit a loved one's grave and not even leave the house.

If any of my memorials contain errors, or if you have information to add, please send me a message or an edit. All memorials are done with the utmost respect of those who have passed on and those of us left behind.

When my soul is restless
And things seem out of line,
I visit an old graveyard
To take a mystical step back in time.

I find the oldest tombstones
Then read the messages there;
I consider what their days had been
And how our lives in ways compare.

We all have lived though heartaches
As well as episodes of fun;
Surviving loss of loved ones,
And rewarded for a job well done.

Sometimes if I'm very still
I can hear what they have to say
And feel them reaching out to me
Grateful for my momentary stay.

I also took photos for Sidney, Eliza, and John Whitener. I just haven't had time to post them yet.

Incorrect Sibling Relationship

I was just browsing Find A Grave, searching for relatives I hadn't found yet, and stumbled across the entry for my Great Aunt Catherine (Memorial # 153831459). In her list of siblings, Helen Virginia Coon Cook (#143920455), my grandmother, is listed as being her half-sibling, but they were, in fact, full sisters. I've stumbled across Memaw being listed as a half-sibling in other places, probably due to the fact that she was born so much later than her brothers and sisters and because her mother remarried after her husband died. My great-grandmother and her second husband never had any children together.

I would absolutely love it if I could maintain Aunt Catherine's memorial, along with Uncle Joe's (her husband, Robert Joezell Cline, #153831424). If you'd rather not transfer maintenance of the memorials, that's OK, but would you update Aunt Catherine's to reflect that Helen was not a half-sibling?

I am trying to put the sources together on this person to make them clear and resolve relationship issues. If you could e-mail me at that would be so helpful, so that I could explain. I am hoping you can help me resolve what it says in the census about her.
Also, I do not understand the two listings of her children on the memorial page.
The 1900 census says she had 13 children/5 living, and from the relationship given as "mother" she has a daughter named Martha E. Stokes Hutto.
Hoping you can help!!

Thank you for your recommendation on transferring this information to GCUMC . If you click on the burial site it is linked to the church cemetery. I see no reason to make the change.

I looked up Nebo Baptist church and only two popped up. The other was in West Virginia and I saw Marion County on the other and was thinking Marion NC so I click on it. Th eother is just listed as Nebo, thanks for catching that. I wish when people created cemeteries they would use the whole cemetery name and also not use abbreviations.

Clive Oates

I noticed that you had provided info on Clive Oates on the FamilySearch website.
I was wondering if you could tell me who some of Clive's grandchildren are.
Clive is one of my distant relatives (we all are in Alabama for the most part).
My grandmother is Ruby Holsomback.
I was hoping to get in touch with some of Clive's descendants that live out west.

I'm particularly interested because I see that Clive was in the Marine Corps like I am now.
