Bio and Links
Bio Photo Having been doing genealogy since the late 1970s and essentially full-time for the last 4 years, my objective is to provide well sourced facts on any memorials I manage. Thus, the viewer can rest assured they are being provided accurate information.

Since discovering www.findagrave.com, I have been in awe at how much has been contributed that has been of help to me. My goal is to return the favor.

In an effort to assist Tom Brocher in his quest to have photos of all the sites in Golden Gate National Cemetery, as of June 30, 2014, photos are posted to all the memorials for those interred in Section R.

Although most of the burials in Section R are from 1950 to 1953, I am humbled to have identified:
2 servicemen who died while in captivity when the 31st Infantry Regiment was surrendered as part of the Bataan Defense Force on April 9, 1942,
1 serviceman who died in the raid on Ploesti,
1 serviceman who died in the Battle of the Bulge,
2 servicemen killed in action defending Clark Field,
1 naval aviator killed in action at Guadalcanal,
3 serviceman killed in action in World War II,
183 servicemen who were killed in action in Korea,
1 serviceman who died while held as a POW in North Korea,
40 serviceman who either died of their wounds or as non-hostile deaths in Korea,
14 servicemen killed in action in Vietnam,
3 non-hostile death of servicemen in Vietnam, and
1 serviceman killed in action in Afghanistan.

All of these men who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country are included in my "Ultimate Sacrifice" virtual cemetery. A biography is included for each serviceman.

RE: St Amant
Let me get those photos re-uploaded and then I'll transfer the whole plot to you.

I also have some other St. Amant's in this cemetery....are they yours?
Jennie, Willia, Iona, Pauline and Julius. There are 2 Martins in the same plot - Aristide and A. Mathilda. I'll send those to you as well if they are yours. Based on the date, I think these would be in Sq 1 rows A or B...they were with some of my first batches and I didn't have much of a system at that point.

RE: St Amant
The new mass upload tool has issues. I forgot that if I delete a memorial that has photos linked to other memorials, all photos disappear on all of the memorials. It is a pain. I will upload them again once whatever problem they are having gets fixed. I'm a bit OCD and will keep trying! LOL!

Now, for William, are you sure this is the same guy that you have in 1898 and the stone has 1902 (or was it 03?)

Do you want all of the memorials associated with this plot transferred?

St Amant
I got your message about the St. Amant's. I am trying to upload the photos to your postings but Find A Grave is having issues right now and won't let me upload. I thought maybe Lester was trying to tell me I was uploading the wrong St Amant marker (which I was) but it wouldn't take the correct St Amant plot and marker. Will try again after supper.

Also, the stone shows the period behind the St. While I am uploading the photos, do you want me to put in an edit so other relatives of this family can find the memorial or do you want to just do it in your own pace?

transfers
Remember to let me know if you want transfers of any memorials. There are only dozen or so I won't let go so chances are I won't be related to any you might want.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! He was the father of the famous 'Madame X' painted by John Singer Sargent.

RE: Elizabeth Jane
I'd be happy to, but unfortunately, I checked the obit index for the local newspaper, and she isn't showing up. Her husband Frederick is listed for having an obit in 1981, but nothing for her. It might be due to the fact that she died out of the area?

I'm attaching a link below. If you click on it, a page will come up listing local papers. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see the Johnstown paper. If you click on the date range you are looking for (in her case, 1980-1984), it opens a PDF file with the index.

This really comes in handy if you need to look anything up that the Johnstown paper would cover. I downloaded all of these PDF's into a folder for convenience sake.

RE: Elizabeth Jane
Kathleen,

No relation at all. I was at the South Fork Cemetery the other day fulfilling photo requests and I came across a headstone that was completely illegible. So out of curiosity, I rubbed it with some chalk and found that it was the headstone for Mary Ann (Coulter) Simmons. I've done a little bit of research on her brother's family.

Anyhow, I had some time on my hands to I started digging around and putting some things together on her and her husband James' children, etc. Most of what I have I posted on the various memorials. Some people don't like obits on memorials so if you prefer that it be removed, let me know and I'll remove it. I stopped at the library today and pulled the obits for as many of the children of James & Mary that I could find.

Hope you find some use for them!

Brian

I'm sorry. I didn't get the message. I am always happy to transfer memorials and share photos. Its one of those "pay it forward" things. In the future, if I don't respond, send me a message and nudge me.
