I am still new to the whole genealogy thing. I have only been doing for about 15 years. I am hoping that my children will continue the search.|
**If I posted a picture for a photo request, Please check the Caption on the photograph for more information. Especially if, there is a general lot shot.
My Paternal Great Grand father and Mother came from Scotland (but met in Illinois) and my Maternal Family is from Connecticut from the 1652ish. I am in the St. Louis, MO area.
I am working on the Stewart, Robertson, Sage and English Families currently.
Photography is relaxing for me...so I take photos and add them. There is cemetery that I am working on that across the street from my children's school. If you want one of my photos, that is fine, but I DO WANT CREDIT. I however would prefer that they are not added to Ancestry. It is more that you might credit me, but the person that acquires it from you might not.
PLEASE -Turn on your messages. You are missing out on A LOT of info that people may want to share with you.
Please remember, when you start researching a new geographic area, that those living in the area, probably know more than you, but there are some that don't. Like St. Louis City and St. Louis County are very separate, but very connected. Please look at an actual map that has city and county boarders, that is dated for that era, NOT a current map. For example, much of what is warehouses now by river, used to be housing.
Just another twig in the tree.

St. Louis Calvary Cemetery
General Calvary Map
Myself and several others, including Elaine, Sharon and Mr Tom, do most of the Photo requests for the St. Louis Calvary Cemetery. We share a google document to do this. I typically look at every request. Which means - I will check to see if is duplicate, see if they are really buried their (see the archdiocese website) and then enter it onto the spreadsheet. Which is sorted usually by sections.
Sections 5 & 16 do not have maps, so those have to be walked, but they were VERY sparsely marked.
Section 10 is done, there are only maybe 20 stones.
Then we each have our favorite sections to do.
Most, but not all ,have already been added into Find a grave by TVFTH. BTW, they are terrible spellers, so be creative. It is a Very large cemetery, so we do sometime wait until there are more than one request in that section.
If you have any questions about St Louis Calvary I will be happy to try to answer it. If I don't know, I will try to find the answer for you.
Happy Hunting :)

|Dianne ||THANK YOU FOR THE RESOURCE LINKS|
Thank you for all the links to other resources in Missouri.
I have found three death certificates of family members who died in Missouri using this link!!! Wow! Every state could take note of this opportunity.
Is a map of the St. Louis Calvary Cemetery available?

|Wilson Hunt||RE: Hunt Mausoleum|
If you know of any other "find a grave" researchers that have posted information about the Hunt family and the burials at Calvary, I am brand new to this site and have left some corrections and additional messages for others posting on this site about the family. Hopefully they will find the information and corrections useful. Most, if not all of the Hunt family information has been passed down to me over my lifetime and I am discovering lots of confusion and errors that I'm trying to straighten out before I croak. The Normandy MO area is having a "Normandie Rendezvous" at the old St. Vincent's hospital on 8-22-2015 to celebrate/commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Normandy by the Lucas family and that has pushed me to start researching what has been posted out there on the web recently. Thanks again.

Good to know. They must have added another lock. I only had the chain and one large lock on the gate. I don't live up there anymore but worked on the plot every year from 1950 thru 2007 when we moved. As frequently as I was there during those years (usually every two weeks during mowing season) and knowing what goes on in the old section in broad daylight, I sure hope you are extremely cautious and fully aware of your surroundings when you are at Calvary.
|Wilson Hunt||RE: Hunt Mausoleum|
Our family has experienced horrific multiple break-ins and repeated vandalism going back to the late 1940's at the Mausoleum. Most recently, my Aunt's coffin was removed from her crypt and opened in 1995, before that, a skull of a relative went bouncing down the hill behind the Mausoleum. The flat, unmarked crypt-closure stones in your pictures are actually made of re-cycled milk container plastic closing off the crypts that were also broken into in the 1995 incident that resulted in the original engraved closure/marker stones being smashed beyond repair. I no longer have the necessary funds to keep repairing and replacing the place and the Cemetery Administration does little or nothing to insure the security of the area as you can see by the amount of gravestone vandalism back in Section 3 ! No, I guess there is no reason to take the pictures down but when I see that someone has been in the Mausoleum, I think you can understand why I want to know how they got in there...in other words, has the entry gate been removed from its' hinges again ?

Please advise how you gained access to the interior of the Hunt Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis to come up with the pictures you posted. Thank you.

No, I wouldn't intentionally create a duplicate memorial. As you can see, the memorials have different names as they were listed on the transcription:
Josephine Caroline Mueller Jung
Josephine Emma Caroline "Emma" Jung
Can you provide me with the proper name since the stone only says "Josephine"?
