Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am currently researching the Ellis and Reeder lines in my family. I am particularly interested in finding my Great-Great-Grandfather, David C. Reeder (b 1849). At present, I cannot find his date of death, where he died or his burial place. If you know anything about him, please leave me a message.

If I have added a memorial for your loved one, and you would like it transferred to you, kindly leave the memorial number of your loved one plus their name as it appears on Find A Grave; as well as your member number and your relationship to the person you would like transferred.

# 33946380 Arnold Smith
Trisha, Just wanted you to know that I did check the obituary for the individual who is listed in the 1940 census that you assumed was Arnold's father. It was an entirely different Paul Smith. I am certain that Paul Arnold Smith died in MO. I can't remember if I mentioned, the son listed as Paul Arnold Smith Jr, was in fact a step-son, Nona's son by her first marriage, but he was either adopted by Sr or merely adopted his name. thanks for all your help!

I think I found Arnold's father, Paul Arnold Smith.
Go to Missouri Digital Heritage:

If you check the 1930 census, there is a Howard P Smith, wife Nona, and son Howard Jr. Then find Paul A Smith at findagrave:
Use Paul A Smith with year of birth 1893 and year of death 1938.

Then look at the 1940 Census and you will see Nona Smith, widow, still living in Chicago.

There's something really intriguing about this story and a little strange. Paul had a brother Howard who lived in CA.

In addition, Nona Ryon is shown as being married in OK, you can see that marriage record at, to an Alphus Wiswall. I have not found one iota of information regarding this man besides that marriage record. Also, date of birth is off by about 10 years for Nona.

Then I found Paul Arnold Smith Jr died in CA:

Paul Arnold Smith
California, Death Index
Name: Paul Arnold Smith
Event Type: Death
Event Date: 21 Oct 1993
Event Place: Riverside, California, United States
Birth Date: 10 Nov 1911
Birthplace: Colorado
Gender: Male
Father's Name: Wiswell
Mother's Name: Ryan

He was apparently the natural child of Alphus Wiswall and Nona Ryon, possibly adopted by Paul Arnold Sr.

I wonder if Arnold and Paul ever knew each other?

Thanks very much. I have the information you have except for what happened to Paul Smith. I have some full dates, if interested, but still trying to find marriage to VanMeter. It was of short duration, from what I could find. I have date for DeVoll. Also have death record for Wildred. I will have a go at locating more on Paul Smith once I find him on the 1940. I noted some people put his death as 1940 based on an online newspaper index, but that particular news article pertains to a marriage of a much younger Paul Arnold Smith and not an obit. Thanks very much for your time.

RE: # 33946380 Arnold Smith
I fully understand. Maybe you could verify some things with her. I know that Arnold was the son of Paul Arnold Smith and Wildred Beatrice Calkins. I would love to learn what happened to his father, but I do know he either died or they were divorced and I believe it was the latter. Beatrice, the name by which his mother was known, married a second time, this time to William L Van Meter, but I don't think the marriage lasted very long. They were divorced before 1938, he died in 1955. Beatrice married a third time to George DeVoll. I think they were still married at the time she died in 1963. I can be reached through at cscalkins1823, if you have a subscription to that website. I would share my email, but would prefer not to use it in this public forum.

Indirectly, yes. His 2great grandfather was the brother of my 3g grandfather. I have researched my 3g grandfather's history and was researching his brother's family currently. In one of the obituaries there was a daughter mentioned, named Georgette. Do you happen to know anything about her?

I wondered if you were the granddaughter mentioned in the bio, or if someone else posted that information through you. Looking for family members of Arnold Smith for genealogy purposes. His mother was Wildred Calkins Smith.

I checked with my genealogy mentor(Debi Hayes-Wolfe) and she explained to me that you are correct. I've made the changes! Thanks for catching this error. The automatic edit's are not always right.

Like I said, I took the photo and set up the memorial, that is why my name is at the bottom. As far as the information, other people have added this information.
