Bio and Links
Bio Photo I spent my childhood on a farm in 1950's Brown County, Kansas and was excited at the age of 11 when we moved to the 'big' city(pop. 2500). Today I live near a bigger city and I miss the simplicity of life I experienced growing up on that farm. I learned in more recent years that my great grandfather Charles bought that farm in 1904 and gave it to my grandfather Henry.
Henry and his parents came from Clayton Co., Iowa in 1868, originally settling on 79 acres of land in northern Brown County. Henry's father, Carl Johann Friedrich Schröder (later known as Charles Schrader), came with his family from Marnitz, Germany in 1853 when he was 16. Henry's mother, Augusta Charlotte Marquardt, came with her family from Neunkirchen, Prussia in 1858 at the age of 15. The two married in February of 1866 in Clayton Co., Iowa, the place they presumably met. They are buried in Pleasant Hill cemetery in Brown County.
My mother's grandparents, Chaffee's, were born in the U.S. You have to go back to my 7th great-grandfather, Thomas, to find the Chaffee who immigrated from England, around 1635. He settled in Mass. and it wasn't until my mother's great grandfather came along that her Chaffee bloodline began to move out of the New England states westward. Mom's grandfather who was born in Indiana in 1845, died in Brown Co., Ks. in 1917. Her father was born in Brown Co. in 1876, died in Lincoln, Neb. My mother was born in Brown Co. in 1916, married my father there in 1937, and they remained in Brown Co. the rest of their lives.
There was a one-page article in the June 2011 issue of National Geographic about the number of people who have ever lived on earth. After much research American demographer Carl Haub estimated that 108 billion people had lived (and died) between 50,000 B.C. and 2011 (and another 7 billion people were alive as of 2011). We'll never get 108 billion people listed on Find A Grave!

To those contributors who are working hard to do that, please consider whether you can manage what you have created already. If you no longer have time to tend to the memorials you've created you may want to take a break from creating more. Someone else, with no memorials under their belt, will come along and continue with it. This is a joint project. Thank you.

RE: Wilhelmina Margretha
Edward Nicholas Ludwig and Mary Ellen Abultz Schuetz are her parents and ALbert was her brother. Her parents are buried in St. Johns in Falls City. I have pictures of them and their headstone, just never uploaded.

RE: Orion W. Welsh
Hi Keith, Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I went back through my research and I think you are correct that he was born in Nebraska. I have not found a listing for him in the 1940 US Census. I have 1910, 1920, and 1930.They show him born in Neb in all three. The 1930 Census lists last name as Welch, but it should be Welsh.
What threw me off is his Illinois death index. I lists his birth in Greely Co, Iowa. But everything else looks correct on it. As I'm sure you know, there are sometimes obvious mistakes in records.
I have not found any information of a wife Osiela, or daughter Dorothy. (not yet anyway) His wife Bertha I (Osey) is listed in the 1920 and 1930 US Census as wife of Orion. I have found Bertha again in 1940 US Census as head of household along with the children, but no listing for Orion. He would have still been alive, but must not have been in the home. Her maiden name "Osey" is listed on Orion's birth certificate. I did not submit a edit for it.
Orion is a brother-in-law of my paternal grandfather but not in my bloodline. Jessie Welsh was my grandfather's second wife. She raised my dad until she was killed in a car/train collision.
I am following the Welsh family in my family tree, but don't have all the details by any means.
Thanks for your memorials! Dan

Keith can you double check the information you sent me on her. I am not seeing the connection. I just want to make sure that we are adding an accurate account of the events.

Thanks Deb
