STRANGERS IN THE BOX
Come, look with me inside this drawer,
In this box I've often seen,
At the pictures, black and white,
Faces proud, still, and serene.
I wish I knew the people,
These strangers in the box,
Their names and all their memories,
Are lost among my socks.
I wonder what their lives were like,
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I'll never know their ways.
If only someone had taken time,
To tell, who, what, where, and when,
These faces of my heritage,
Would come to life again.
Could this become the fate,
Of the pictures we take today?
The faces and the memories,
Someday to be passed away?
Take time to save your stories,
Seize the opportunity when it knocks,
Or someday you and yours,
Could be strangers in the box.

I am a Civil War living Historian and was with the 15th N.J. Vol. Inf. Regt. Co. E out of West Caldwell, N.J. If there were any relitives in the war from N.J. I would be more than glad to look for them. Let me know and have a wonderful Christmas and a safe New Year. ....Dennis

|Dianne C. Carman||RE: Florence Foster|
I posted the images. Florence's actual tombstone is the white one in the monument image. I don't recall if the engravings on L T's marker were legible. But the way I photograph if they were I would have the shot. I don't go to Oak Hill alone. Next time I'm there I'll recheck. My partner in grave hunting crime is an excellent researcher. Records are downtown and I'm less than a half hour away. Maybe we can help fill in some blanks for you.
happy going back to the past

Yes, it's a footstone I shot at LT Foster momument. I have no info on Florence. Create her memorial and I will add his monument with the small one of hers.

I didn't catch the request already in for him. Have it filled.

I have LT's headstone if you like, request it and I'll post it. Also have an image of a footstone Florence. May I repost your poem to my page?

Thank you for the edit!

Should I add him back to Grandin Cemetery? I deleted my entry because your memorial took precedence. David, Mary and Albert Dilts are also listed in the wrong cemetery.
There are additional Dilts stones in Grandin that are right next to these 4 that you might also be interested in.

I've been photographing local cemeteries over the past couple of months. I know that I've posted gravestones for Seal and Seals, which you may have found recently.
Over the past few days, I have been working on Grandin Cemetery, which is across the street from Bethlehem Presbyterian Church (which I attend and am a member of). The gravestone for Abraham Dilts (memorial #25137609) is incorrectly identified as being in Bethlehem Presbyterian Churchyard, when in fact, it is in Grandin Cemetery (which is across the street).
Can you please move Abraham Dilts grave to be in Grandin Cemetery?
Thank you very much,

I wish I could give you an answer to your question. Several others have ask me if I know anything about this. I did look into it many years back and I remember I found about 3 Samuel Hills living in Beaver & Allegheny counties around this time.
The only thing that I found in common was that our Samuel's mother's name was Frances and he did have a sister named Phoebe, which made me think our Samuel was the guy, but I was never able to find a marriage or divorce record to connect Samuel with Elizabeth Barr.
If you think Samuel & Elizabeth married, you might look for a divorce record in Beaver Co., Pa. I know it is very hard to get records in Beaver Co., but that is something you might look at.
I know Samuel married Laura Hiestand in July 1887 in Hancock Co., Ohio, so if he was the father he must have left Beaver Co., Pa., shortly after the child was born. I don't understand why he would have left Elizabeth and moved to Ohio??
My sister did at one time have the Hill family Bible, and she did say that there was not mention of Samuel having any children from another marriage.
You might try to email a Diana Samek (Silverhawk7). Not sure of her email address, but you can find her under Ancestry and look for William Hill family tree. Her great grandfather was William Hill - a brother to Samuel. She has done a great deal on the Hill families. She may have come across something which might help.
Sorry, I can't be of much help.
