William Leonard Wood
Greetings Richard,
I am sorry to say I don't have a primary source for the burial of William Leonard Wood at Lower Hightower. The information came from descendants of Simeon Lavender Wood who state that it was passed down in their family that he was buried at Lower Hightower. I put a note on his memorial that he was still living in the area and was nearly 80 years old in 1870.
This is not my direct line, but some of Simeon Lavender Wood's descendants came to Lincoln County, North Carolina and lived near, associated with, and are buried near my Vincent Wood family in a Lutheran Church cemetery in Lincoln County, NC. I went to school with members of this family and still have close friends who are descended from Simeon Lavender Wood. This is why I became interested in the family many,many years ago. Through the years when I was in North Georgia working on my Wehunt family, I would always try to work a little on Simeon Valentine's family.
I do, however, think that I vaguely remember seeing a reference once to his place of burial in a North Georgia Historical Journal and/or a Lumpkin County, Georgia History. I will see if I can locate this reference. Also, is there a possibility there were WPA cemetery surveys done in the 1930s. I know they were working in North Georgia, but I gave my copy of the records they compiled (mainly history of the area, and not so much cemeteries) away several years ago to a someone in Georgia. Perhaps William's tombstone was still there and readable in the 1930s. It would be great if there had been a Wood Family Bible with the dates!!!
Sorry that I can't be of more help.

Ruth Essary, another sister in Memphis that passed away.Feel free to contact me if I can provide you with more information.

You took a photo marker for Mr McKenzie Memorial # 38794058. Do you know what cemetery that is in?
Thanks

RE: Peter Martin Scott::
I agree, the death date is questionable. I wish we knew where the person got the exact dates that he put on the memorial. He has exact dates for birth and death. I think he has now passed away.

Peter Martin Scott::
Richard, what makes you say that Peter Scott did not die around 1870? I'm told that he was not listed on the 1880 census, but that his wife and children were. Peter and Jane Williams Scott were my great, great grandparents. I noticed that you wrote that they were your 4th great grandparents. So, that makes us distant cousins.

I saw you left a little message with your token, re: his wife. I have been working on the Daniel family, and I would like to know if he was born in Mecklenburg VA, and his parents were Samuel Daniel and Martha Short? I am hoping I have found the right person, any info will help. thanks!
