Hi, I was born and grew up in Pikeville, Bledsoe County, TN. Since I began researching my family tree in 2007, I have learned many things about thousands of relatives that I had never known about. |
I know there are many people who are, or soon will be, searching for their roots as well. I hope the information that I place on this website will assist them in locating a long-lost relative.
I'm researching the following family lines, as well as MANY OTHER LINES associated with Bledsoe County, Tennessee and MANY OTHER STATES: Allison, Anderson, Bowman, Boyd, Bradford, Campbell, Clifton, Craig, Green, Hale, Hall, Holland, Larcome, Massey, Maxwell, Pendergrass, Pleasants, Russell, Seagraves, Simmons, Skillern, Snow, Stanton, Stipe, Wheeler, and others.
I'm thrilled to report that, after a multi-year effort, I'm now the proud owner of one of the elusive "Skillern Family History and Genealogy" book.
My private database contains in excess of 107,000 individuals, although I have posted only a tiny percentage of my data on Ancestry.com Family Tree, Find A Grave, etc.
I recently had my DNA analyzed through Ancestry.com and 23andMe.com. The information contained in these test results continues to be invaluable to me in my quest to learn more about my family history, my health, and where my ancestors lived thousands of years ago.
According to my haplogroup, my Boyd line is believed to have originated in a place now known as Doggerland. You can learn more about it at the following websites:

ANCESTORS OF YESTERDAY
Ancestors of so long ago,
I'll search until I find.
Till I can prove and clearly show,
that you are truly mine.
I'll follow behind your trail of tears,
the hidden footprints of time.
Covered and buried throughout the years,
and continue each mountain to climb.
I'll search every faraway seaside shore,
and every valley below.
I'll unlock each and every door,
as my own teardrops flow.
I'll unearth the buried history of you,
and your own ancestral kin,
I'll search for that all important clue,
and open my heart to let you in.
Your tombstone stands among the rest:
Neglected and alone,
The name and date are chiseled out -
on polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care,
It is too late to mourn -
You did not know that I exist,
You died and I was born.
Yet, each of us are cells of you:
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse -
entirely not our own.
Dear ancestor, the place you filled,
a hundred years ago -
Spreads out among the ones you left,
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew -
That some day I would find the spot;
And come and visit you?

Dear Mr. Boyd,
I have taken some photos at the Blountville Cemetery and many of the headstones are difficult to read, but i can give you what i have and you can look to see if they match.

Isn't DNA wonderful? I was adopted and from having my DNA tested, I guess we are related. Let me tell you how, though the story is a bit sordid. I was adopted. My bio mother was Marie Mabry, who was the offspring of two unmarried people, Cora Lackey (Mabry) and James Barber. Nancy A Stipe Barber was his mother.

You are very welcome

I guess You knew I would not give up on finding the foot marker , Well I did not. I was by there today and they had the little pink survey flags up on the plot next to the Henninger plot. The Henningers looked spread out too far and out of line. I was looking on the right bottom side and decided to look on the left,
I have a this thin long knife and I stuck it in the ground but it would not go in. I dug the dirt out to find his marker abt 6 inches under the dirt and grass. Looks like all of the 4 bottom markers need to be moved over some and John's raised. But I am going to add this photo to his memorial.
Thanks for being patient with Me. I knew there was a marker there.
|Elizabeth Kane||Smith Cemetery|
Sorry in previous message I referred to it as Bal Harbor cemetery
|Elizabeth Kane||Bal Harbor/Hainey Hill|
Is the Bal Harbor cemetery that you are interesting in getting a photo from the same cemetery that is listed here as Hainey Hill? You say the Bal Harbor cemetery is on Bal Harbor Dr. I was just up there today and the headstones bear the names that are interred at Hainey Hill (which has the same address/map location). I did not see the 3 individuals that you have listed. The place is overgrown and it looks as if the neighbors dump their leaves and branches there. With a little cleaning up some other headstones may be found but I only found about 10. Last names are Worley & Champion. Cemetery is also called Smith-Worley.
