|Kevin Scanlon||The missing markers|
By the way, a marker was erected near the wreck site to mark the scene in 1953, but after it and several others were stolen the last one was not replaced.
So sadly, it's an exercise in futility to keep putting them up there.
|Kevin Scanlon||Casey Jones Marker|
Very nice thought that you might try to replace the Casey Jones marker at Vaughan, but why bother? The State of Mississippi closed the Casey Jones Museum at Vaughan in 2004 and the depot that housed it has been moved, the place is very remote and all the remaining historical structures are falling to rack and ruin. Trash everywhere. Not worth the effort. And also there's so very little train traffic along that line, the railroad company is considering selling the land and pulling up the tracks. Any marker you put up will be stolen or removed like the orginal was. If restoring the marker was that important you might think the Water Valley Casey Jones Museum (just down the road on I-55) would have put another one up.
