RE: John H Barker
John's obit is in the Menifee County Library. In the back are copies of older newspapers and you can find it there.

RE: John H Barker
Yes, this is the same John H. Barker. Tombstone was wrong - he was 89 at the time of his death Oct. 10, 1960 and birth year was 1871. Read his newspaper obituary and it proved he was Betty's son. Ky Death Index has him listed as John Borker. According to Menifee School record Sarah's birthdate is June 6, 1941 but Ky does not have her listed as being born here. So Sarah was born in another state and when she entered 1st grade in Menifee she was 2 years older than the other kids. She must have either failed or was not sent to school. She was very poor and wore dresses that were very dirty and too big. I guess John did the best he could being an old man and all. They lived in the old Leroy Buchanan home. A two-story scary looking place.

RE: John H Barker
I can't recall ever looking for John in the 1940 Census but I will. I'll let you know if I find him. And yes, I'm sure John and Sarah lived on Rothwell Hill in 1950. They lived a couple of homes past my family and Sarah rode the same school bus. In 1954 John married a recently divorced woman named Alma Lawson McPherson. Alma was the ex-wife of Stephen McPherson. Her, John and Stephen all lived in 1954 on Tolan Road off Rt. 36 in Menifee. Sarah just disappeared. Don't know whatever became of her. Menifee School records show that when she came to Menifee and enrolled in the 1st grade she was a transfer from Montgomery County and John was listed as a parent but no mother listed. Since he was around 70 in 1950 it makes me wonder if he was instead the grandfather.

RE: Grant Barker S/O Martha Elizabeth
Do you know who Grant's daughters married? Maybe I could find out where Sarah is and how she was related through some of Grant's kids or grandkids.

RE: Martha Elizabeth
Thanks! The reason I was asking about Mary Elizabeth was her son John used to live on Rothwell Hill in Menifee and had a little girl living with him. Her name was Sarah Lou Barker and she attended the 1st grade at the old Frenchburg School for just a few months in early 1950's and then her and John moved. I want to find Sarah who would be in her 70's if still living. Don't know if she was John's granddaughter or what. At this time John's wife Lulu and other children all lived in Ohio. Maybe she and John had divorced?
