I am very interested in the early history of the industrial cities of Paterson and Newark, New Jersey.

My ancestors were silk manufacturers in Paterson, New Jersey, and in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Please feel free to use any and all photographs/information that have been entered. A credit to the "Friends of Cedar Lawn Cemetery" is a courteous and much appreciated gesture, but is not required if you plan to use any of the information and/or photographs for private or commercial purposes.

It is my desire to transfer all memorials of those I entered in Cedar Lawn to their descendants and all those doing their family genealogy.

Jane Ann Shorrock #104235833
Hi Mike,

I made the change you requested, indicating that Shorrock Shorrock was the father of Jane Ann. This information is supported in the recently published book, "Early Paterson Newspapers: Marriage & Death Notices 1822-1867 Paterson, New Jersey..." (Passaic County Historical Society).

Vicki

Thomas Scott d. 1870
Hi,
Do you have any additional information on Thomas Scott who died 1870. I know he married Jamima VanZile, 21 April 1816, the same day Nancy Scott md. Sylvester Stin(n)ard. I am looking for relationship between Thomas and Nancy.
Thanks for any help.
Paula

Thank you very much for adding Ann recently. Do you happen to have any other information about who she may have been buried with at Sandy Hill? I have been stuck on this branch of the family tree for awhile. Thank you again for your efforts. Jay

Hello! Regarding your entry for Ann Springsteen Brooks. I was wondering how you knew the name or death date of her husband (in 1828).

Thanks!

I thought you might want to use some of this info for Thomas' memorial. I found it interesting.

New York Herald, Tuesday, May 31, 1881, P. 10

General Thomas D. Hoxsey, an active and prominent politician of New Jersey, died at his residence at Haledon, near Paterson, yesterday, aged sixty-six years. He was born in Williamstown, Mass., and when about twenty-one years of age went to Paterson, and after serving as clerk in a dry goods store for some years, embarked in that business himself. He subsequently read law, and in 1846 and 1847 was elected to the State Assembly as a democrat. He was afterward elected State Senator for three years. He changed his politics in 1860, and as a republican, was elected to the office of county clerk, which he held for five years. He was the greenback candidate for Governor in 1877 and again in 1880. He received the appointment of General of the Militia of New Jersey shortly before the war and held that position for several years. He was counsel in a number of important lawsuits, prominent among which is the Van Houten will case, which has been in the courts for more than twenty years, and in which over $1,000,000 are believed to be involved.

I feel that by working with each other we can get this right. We each contribute from a different source allowing us to add more info than if we used just one of those sources. I think we are compiling a great store of information for relatives of the people who are buried in this beautiful, historic cemetery.

Keep up the good work!

Scott Family
Thanks for the info. Cindy & I have resolved the Henry Scott issue amicably (we are friends -- no problem there).

I had a memorial for Julia Scott Ward & her husband Martin Luther Ward. I linked Julia to the parents.

Thank so much for your time & efforts! Looks like I will be a busy bee linking them all together~ hopefully attracting a few closer family members? So pleased to be on the site and again thankful for all you have contributed in other peoples honor!

Henry Edward Hird b 1884
Hello again!
THANK YOU so much for the transfer!~ I have added a short bio & additional information on site honoring Samuel Hird!~I would like to try to link the other family members buried here if possible & to add additional "bios" and information as they are a very interesting family! I have them in my virtual but since I do not manage any of them I cannot link so maybe you can add a link to Samuel's son who is Henry Edward? I will try to message other memorials of the extended Hird family who are also buried here:) Again much appreciation for all your efforts!
Sincerely, Deb

Hird, Samuel b 1850
Greetings!~
I was surprised to find your Memorial to my Great Uncle's~Grandfather here! Although I am a distant relation I am recently involved in Geneology and have accrued many family members on my Tree on the GENI website. I am also trying to build Memorials to them here & before I begin adding names I am always searching!~Happy to find someone who has been kind enough to add their name already:)
I have all the information needed to "fill in the blanks" on Samuel's site (other family members are buried here as well)If you would like me to forward that information to you to add/update I will gladly do that~or you can do a transfer if you prefer!
Thanks again for your interest in those past~
Deb
