Bio and Links
Bio Photo April 1861 marked the beginning of the War Between the States. One month later, Annie Hanna was born to John and Athalinda Hanna. John enlisted in the Confederate States Army in November 1861 and served as Private in Co. B, 4th Alabama Infantry.

He was present at many battles in Virginia and served as litter bearer. Athalinda sewed coats for Confederate soldiers and served as Chief Nurse at the hospital in Madison, Georgia.

John and Athalinda are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Jasper, Florida.

Annie married Thomas Jefferson Darracott and the family moved to Lakeland, Polk Co., Florida in 1895. Annie became a civic and patriotic leader going on to become the founder of the Lakeland Chapters of United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1904, United Daughters of the American Revolution and The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century. She proposed and spearheaded the effort to erect a Confederate monument in Lakelandʼs Munn Park in 1910. The figure of a gallant Confederate Soldier now stands as a memorial to all who served the Confederacy.

The Lakeland Chapter of UDC changed its name in 1945. Now the Annie H. Darracott 791 chapter of UDC remains committed to these objectives: Historical, Educational, Benevolent, Memorial and Patriotic.

Annie went to heaven in 1956 at the age of 95. She is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeland, Polk Co., Florida.

We honor her memory, her leadership and her dedication to UDC.

Confederate Headstone
I am trying to find out some info on trying to have a Confederate Headstone put on one of my ancestors, in Homeland Cemetery. Not sure if it is even possible. He has a very old stone, not military and it will soon no longer be readable. What would I have to do?

Charles R. Darracott
I believe the memorial #8483811 for Charles Darracott is incorrect, the photo shows a birth date of Aug. 1883. The correct Charles Darracott is interred at Immanuel Church in Old Church, Hanover County and he died in 1885. I have a photo of his marker, but I need to take another as the marble stone is weathered and covered with lichen.

Ella M. Rorabeck
I am added some marker photos for the 5 Rorabeck graves. The graves are located in Section E. There are 5 markers in a row with a family marker inscribed Rorabeck behind the row of 5 markers. I am adding a plot photo. In the photo the markers are inscribed as follows from left to right. The marker on the far left is inscribed, Charles Rorabeck 1827-1906, next is Electa Rorabeck, 1832-1915, next, in the center is Ella M. Rorabeck, 1854-1944, to her right is Ralph C. Rorabeck, 1869-1952 and then next and on the far right of the plot photo is Annie G. Rorabeck, 1879-1963.

Ann, you left a message on my GGrandmother's memorial stating She Was a Real Daughter. I am assuming that refers to the UDC. I have never found any information referencing the War. could you provide more information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Stone Monument at Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville, Arkansas.
Hi there, I am in the process of fulfilling your request for W. Stone at Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville, Arkansas. A civil war veteran. I was not sure if this is a family member or not. I see his wife is buried next to him and there was not a photo request for her. I just wanted to tell you if this is family I am going to upload her as well and her middle name is Eoline not Coline. Take Care, SJ

Re: William Henry Venable
I see that your chapter UDC has placed flowers on the memorial for William Henry Venable. I have uncovered a controversy about his burial and hereby want to make you aware of this controversy so that you can place this material with your material on him. This William Henry Venable memorial is Find A Grave memorial #24100353.
According to the web site posted below run by Gail Red @ he is buried in Richardson Hill Cemetery, Dahlgren, Hamilton County, Illinois whereas he is reported buried in Brunswick County, Virginia on the Find A Grave memorial.
This note is just to let you be aware of this conflict in burial data.
