I was born and raised in Virginia. My husband and I retired in December of 2012. We started working on our family tree together and discovered Find A Grave. My husband became a photo volunteer and we enjoy going to the cemeteries and finding the stones together. I make a special effort to create memorials for all infants and young children as well as our military. |
I find this work very rewarding and love helping people find their loved ones final resting place. Thank you Find A Grave for creating such a wonderful website.
I am happy to transfer a memorial as long as it meets the Find A Grave guidelines.
THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Thanks for the updated photo of Lavinna M Leddick in Samuel Bear cemetery (memorial 116335035). You caught the sun at just the right angle. I've removed my original photo.

I do not know that information. You can always request one and see. I currently have 17 request out. I would go take one myself but I live in Idaho. The best I can do is search the web. Wishing you the best of luck in your family search.

Glenn Edward Martin, is my father... he rests at Amherst Cemetery, along with both his parents... James Reed Martin and Reva Evans Martin. My son is resting here in Carolina. _Tiffany Martin Kellam_

I worked and worked on cleaning it up but you can't tell by the photo. I put a pizza cutter in my car to use as an lawn edger the next time I'm there. I don't know if it would work but I can't see why not.
