Bio Photo Born 1946, Chandler OK; US Army, Vietnam, 1968-69; Ph.D. University of Kansas, 1976; current residence: Tokyo, Japan.

Author of two books of family history: "North of Deep Fork: An Oklahoma Farm Family in Hard Times," which deals with Lincoln County; and "The Fate of Bones: Adventures in Family History," which follows the Pound/Pounds family from Virginia in the mid-1600s to Oklahoma at the start of WWII. Available from Amazon.

Recently I have written about early-day killings in Lincoln Co. Oklahoma. I have a group of seven stories courting a publisher.

I run a Lincoln County Oklahoma website at The Table of Contents for the new book is posted there. And I've just started a new website for McCorkle Cemetery in Lincoln Co. because the FAG contributor who controls most of the sites there suffers from terminal inertia: Right now, I am working on a book about the vanished village of Clematis, south of Davenport in Lincoln Co. It's not by chance that its rise and fall coincides with that of the Oklahoma Socialist Party.

RE: Ellenore Orr Adair in Guernsey Co.
Wayne - I know of the Robert Orr and Elizabeth Merchant name in Guernsey Co., OH. I may have worked on this family at one time.

Did you ever connect it to the other Orr families of the area - there were several in the Guernsey, Muskingum and Coshocton Co., OH area.

If you like, I can send you a written compilation on some of them.

RE: Ellenore Orr Adair in Guernsey Co.
Wayne - I don't think so but I have done considerable work on the family - which by the way is interesting. They settled in Guernsey Co., OH while my people settled in Muckingum and Coshocton Co., OH. DNA tests indicate that while we likely are related - we are not related very close. Most Orrs are descended from Vikings and were from Scotland prior to going to northern Ireland.

RE: Samuel Pounds in Mason Co IL
Hi Wayne, yes I was able to get into your tree. I noticed that you have something wrong. Julia Ann Clayton is married to Daniel Walker Pound and you have her as a daughter of Thomas Pound and the sister of Daniel Walker Pound. Daniel and Julia are my 3rd great grandparents and I have this well documented and photos up the wazoo on all these families.

Thanks anyway

Hi Wayne,

Sorry, I wish I could write you with better news. I searched again the Block where the City of Welston said their records showed the grave. Unfortunately I did not find the Stoneking grave and I'm afraid it is unmarked. For your records, the City said the grave is located at "Block 6, Lot 25, Space A".

Best regards,

Hello Wayne,

I searched the Welston Cemetery last weekend but did not find the Stoneking grave. I called the Welston City hall. They still have burial record of the Stoneking grave, and they were able to relay to me the block and lot numbers for the grave site. I plan to head out there again this weekend and get a picture for you. In the unfortunate event there is no headstone, since I have the block, lot, an space information I'll get a photo of the grave site for you.

Best regards,

RE: photo of Sam'l Pounds stone
Mr Wayne,
Yes it says 101 years. Anything more and the stone would have to pretty much come out of the ground. I pulled on it back but did not want to push it because it is resting on its broken lower half. I mainly wanted to see the 101.
