I am a lifetime resident of Hiawatha, Brown County, Kansas. I have been working on my family genealogy since 2002, and my husband's family since 2006.

A lot of the photos that I upload to Find a Grave I take time to post some additional information, like the location within the cemetery, or other things that I feel might be of interest to family members who can not make the trip themselves, or that could help them locate the stones if they do make the trip. I have also started going back and adding death notices and obits to some of my pages in Brown County cemeteries as I have time. On pages that I do not manage, but have posted the headstone pictures, I have been adding the information in the comments section beneath the picture. So please click on any photo that I have uploaded and scroll down to the bottom to see if there is any additional information for you.

Hi Paula!
Thanks for adding the headstone for Mrs. Yingling. Can you take the old one off of her husband's & post the new one with the dates? I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!

RE: David Leroy Mize ?# 27613213
Well Paula this maybe more info than you want, but here it is:

David Leroy Mize was born in Daviess Co., Missouri not St. Joseph. Father: Burrell Braxton Mize born in Tenn. F-A-G # 13270461 and Mother: 1st cousin of Burrell, Martha Mize F-a-G # 21237812. He was named after his mother's father, David Mize.

David Leroy Mize was one of thirteen siblings: John Richardson; Mary C. J. Mize Newton; James H.; Greorge Braxton (Civil War Vet.) William Harvey Mize (died fighting in the Civil War near Nashville probably buried in the National Cemetery as a unknown); Albert Madison; Sarah Elizabeth Mize Hicks; Emily C. Mize Jay; Burrell Wesley; Charles Johnston; Martha Ann Mize; Naomi Mize Elliott. Some were born in Kentucky, one in Indiana, some in Daviess Co., Mo.and the last two in Kickapoo, Leavenworth Co. Kansas.

David married Margaret Rice on 9 Aug 1868 in Jackson Co. Where she died or is buried is up in the air. Both Jackson Co. and Brown Co. (where they were living) have death records. Jackson Co. has her name crossed off and son Elmore's also, but it looks like Brown Co. tried to erase their names.) Their two children that died were Emma Elizabeth Mize -1869-1875 and Elmore Mize 1878-1879 9 months old.

David married Mary Elizabeth Rose Babcock on 3 Jul 1881.They had four children (two who must have been born between 1880 and died before 1900). The other two were Ernest Milton Mize and Celia Gladys Mize Weikle buried in Isley Cem. I think Celia is the one not named in the obit. Hope this is helpful for future questions. Joanne

Thank you for looking, Paula. I appreciate your help. I did go back into some of my early research and found some information a cousin had found at the courthouse and other places. Included in that was Mary Elizabeth Rose Mize's application for a pension and it mentioned his date of death. Are you related to the Mize family? Joanne

Hello Paula, I have yet to find the exact date of my grandfather David L. Mize, but I have found an article in the Abilene Daily Chronicle, Abilene, Kansas published on Mar 25, 1915, written on Mar 14 that states my grandmother, Mrs. C.F. Nyfeler was told on the 21st of March that her father was seriously ill and would not recover. Therefore, the 3 Mar 1914 could not be correct. I am guessing it may have been the 30th or just before. Hello, Thank you for making this memorial and posting the picture. If you are not related to David Leroy Mize could you transfer his memorial to me? I am one of his grand-daughters and I would like to connect the family together. My number is 47787717. Thank you. Joanne

Paula

Would you be willing to transfer Mary West Tiffany's #90887382, In Mt. Hope Cemetery.

She would be my GGG Grandmother, I have just located research information of her 2 children. I continued to make updates on her and it would be easier to make changes directly.

It was during the mid 1980's when my grandmother I made a visit to Hiawatha, to locate her burial and place a monument for you.

Thanks for considering this.

Karen

RE: Lenore Pearl
You are correct. The other page has the burial site wrong. I wonder if one of us should ask the other person to remove their page. I don't know the procedure... I actually thought it would be best for me to leave it up to the two of you.

Are you Pearl family? If so, I have a story for you.
