Bio and Links
Bio Photo Hi, I have been doing family Genealogy as far back as I can remember. My Great Aunt Pauline had me walking in cemeteries as soon as I was old enough to walk. My aunt Pauline Myers died in 2000 but I still carry on with her research.

This is a wonderful place to remember our loved ones and too pass along information to others. Coming from a military family I have been trying to record the graves of the Veterans, especially the civil war vets. Many of the old stones are gone but with a sight like this maybe they will not be forgotten. My daughter and I spend weekends finding old cemeteries that have been forgotten, (a lot of walking). We have also recorded cemeteries where all headstones are gone and the only records for these graves are recorded at the county library.

I want to thank Dave and Apple Dwiggins for the info on the Indiana Service men who were killed during World War II, and are buried at the Manila American Cemetery. See their web page here.

My grandma, Inez Rogers (Buried at Grandview Cemetery, Vigo Co. IN) died Aug. 7th 2009 if you have time please visit her memorial and leave a flower.

Headings Chapel Cemetery
I visited this cemetery in about 1993 or 94. I found the gravestone of my great grandfather George W. McConnell at that time. It was way back on a dead end road far from everyone. The cemetery was in a neglected state at the time I visited. George's tombstone was toppled and it looked as if the place had had no attention in a long number of years.

My Uncle Jim, his grandson, and I righted the stone and tried to prop it up, between the base and the engraved stone with stones found nearby.

From the nice pictures it appears that much has been done to rehab this cemetery. It appears that George's stone may have a new base. Those making those improvements are to be commended and thanked as well as Vada for the posting. It is the first time that I have been aware that there was a newspaper reporting of George's death.

Hobermeyer/Habermeyer Cem. Vigo IN
Hi Vada! I just saw you have done some notable work in the cemetery listed above. My ancestors John Habermeyer, wife Adeline Eberwein, and brother George, were from Germany and settle around Lost Creek, in Vigo County. I know they were buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery, and George was a jolly Saloon Keeper, but do you know if the Cemetery has any relation to the family? Thank you, and I hope you don't mind my asking but you where the only one who seemed to have contributed to the cemetery.

Bill Stoller
Thank you for honoring JAMES WILLIAM STOLLER .

I was named in memory of my blood relative JAMES WILLIAM STOLLER (aka Bill Stoller) and have been researching his heroic saga. He was killed in the Battle of the Java Sea (spring, 1942), after serving on two ships that were sunk. He was a very courageous young man, like all who have sacrificed so much. Thank you for remebering him.

RE: Charles F. Plymate
Hi Vada,

I just now saw your reply - thanks! With the help of some locals, I was able to find the cemetery and yes, it is in awful shape. It is on a heavily wooded hill and this isn't an ideal time of the year to look for stones because of all the foliage and vegetation. Besides, I'm afraid of snakes too! A tree or several trees have fallen down in the cemetery and I know there are some stones under the trees. I think I counted seven stones that were standing, but I know there are quite a few others there. I was looking for the stone of Charles Plymate, a Civil War veteran and I think he should have a military-style marker. However, I didn't see it on my visit. The owner of the land on which the cemetery sits was very pleasant and told me I could come back anytime to look for it again. I think I'm going to go back in the late fall or early winter, when the weeds and leaves are down (and the snakes in the ground!). If there is a particular grave you'd like a picture of, let me know. I may be able to find it. Thanks for responding to my message!
