I received your e-mail from July 2, 2015 about Seth Strong and who his children's mother was. I originally had it on find-a-grave as Deborah Butler for the same reasons you gave - marriage date and dates of the births. However, I've seen the birth records from Vermont and each of the records list Ruth Dunton as the mother. I understand what you say about them calling her mother on death certificates, but on the birth certificate, I believe they would name the real mother. I found the records on familysearch.org and saw a copy of the actual document. The records are "Vermont Vital Records 1760-1954 and Vermont, births and christenings, 1765-1908. It says it was taken from a copy of old town records - the original records destroyed. It's from Isle La Motte and the Town Clerk was John E. Montgomery. I looked for records on the marriage of Deborah and for Ruth - found Deborah. Also looked for the death date of Deborah - didn't find it. My thoughts are: Seth married Deborah October 12, 1768. I think she may have died early and Seth married Ruth Dunton about 1770 and all the children are Ruth's as the Vermont records show. I can't prove it at this time - it's just my gut feeling.

You are welcome. Whenever I take pics, I try to move as much grass, flowers, sod or whatever to get the info at the bottom. Sometimes I have to digital enhance it in PhotoShop to bring out the info.
