RE: Memorial Additions
Dotty,

In the last few months the site has changed. Contributors can now make the individual edits instead of sending the contributor a list of information. You can see what I mean by looking at the "Edit" tab on a memorial other than yours. When the contributor sends the information it will show up on your contributor page under an "Edits" tab.

If the information isn't Accepted, Denied or Ignored within 30 days, it will automatically be added or changed on the memorial and that is more than likely what happened. This allows contributors to still submit changes to memorials where the member is inactive, or as in your case, not always active. Unfortunately the site didn't let anyone know about the changes and we've all had to stumble upon it.

When I saw you weren't making the additions, I used that option, rather than sending it to Admin to make the change and them possibly making your user name inactive. I thought that was the better option.

Thank you for your contributions. You may see more in Lakeview. There are a couple of us involved in researching the cemetery for a visitors center that has been created at the cemetery.

Thanks,

Rick

RE: Wm. Smith & Phebe Kemp
Hi Dotty, I guess our messages on findagrave.com have not gone unnoticed. Are you getting querys from Stafford Smith descendants? I love to meet relatives I never knew I had and I'm more than glad to help anyone who asks. If I give you my e-mail, could we trade information about Stafford Smith? I
probably don't have as much as you do but who knows, maybe you'd like to learn about Phebe's parents. it's eskew54@netzero.com

Best wishes, Dan

William and Phebe Smith
Hello again, I'm still plugging away on William and Phebe but as you mentioned it's hard to find anything. If I may ask, were you looking in Greene County, Indiana for William's will? I ask because that's the last place I have any record of the two of them. I suspect they both passed sometime before 1850 otherwise they would be easier to find.
I'll keep working on my end and if I'm lucky enough to find something I'll pass it on to you. Thanks again for all your time and trouble. Regards, Dan

RE: Wm. Smith & Phebe Kemp
Hi Dotty, I might not be as surprised as you think. ha! I've been doing the Kemps since 1985 and I have a bookcase, two filing cabinets full of Reuben Kemp's descendants. Up until a few years ago I had very little on Phebe and William Smith, I tried but William Smith is such a common name. Then I learned that his father was Stafford Smith and I could work with that. I guess you knew about William and Phebe living in Hardin County, KY. Your
Stafford Smith must have been a restless man to live in so many places. Do you happen to know where Phebe and William Smith are buried? I think Stafford Smith is in Greene County, Indiana but I don't have a clue about William and Phebe. If you have a list of his children, would it be possible for me to get a copy please? You can probably get into the D.A.R under Reuben Kemp if you wanted to. Have you seen his pension application from October of 1832. I can send you a copy if you want.
If you're interested, you're more than welcome to whatever I have on the Kemp Family. I'd really like to learn more about your Smith Family. My e-mail is eskew54@netzero.com Best wishes, Dan Kemp

RE: Wm. Smith & Phebe Kemp
Hi Dotty, I wish I knew what you had on William and Phebe, maybe you can fill in some blanks for me also. Do you a copy of the marriage bond from Hardin County, Kentucky? Hardin County is where they were married at. I have a copy of the bond in my files but I'll have to look for it. I recall that Stafford Smith was born in Ireland and came to America at the age of 18. I think he fought in the Revolutionary War but his pension application was rejected. He supposedly came from Ireland with a brother named John but they went their separate ways when they reached America. After the War he moved to Washington County, KY and then moved here and there for the next 30 years finally settling in Greene County,Kentucky. I think Stafford must have actually been residing in Hardin County, KY in 1807.
There is another record that a Rebeckah Smith married John McShose, Stafford Smith gave his consent and a John Smith was surety and witness.
William married Phebe Kemp on June 29, 1805 and the witness was again John Smith. I have some of Phebe and William's sons ending up in Illinois.
Silas Smith is buried in the Hall Cemetery and
wesley Smith is buried in Fayette County, IL.
The other two boys, Nelson and Wesley, I'm not sure of. I have more information if you're interested. My e-mail is eskew54@netzero.com
Regards, Dan Kemp
