THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

RE: Patsey Bradley
Debbie, I stand corrected, I emailed my cousin, which I should have done in the first place and her true dates are 25 Mar 1944 to 16 May 1945. These dates come straight from Patsy's sister. As we both know, dates on headstones can be off. Ah, the joys of being a family historian. Sorry for the confusion on my part.

RE: Patsey Bradley
I don't have access to those records, I got my list from http://www.usgwarchives.net/ for the 'B' surname. I'll have to get her death certificate. No problem. Prolly just a matter of transcribing error in one.

RE: Patsey Bradley
Sorry for the delay, in the cemetery records under AGE, it has 1M for her.The other thing is that neither of her parents are listed. However, I do have personal knowledge that her mother was in Cincinnati at that time visiting her father and brothers, so this makes sense. The other tidbit that I had was a death in Georgia, where we stopped in our migration from Connecticut. And I do not see her as having passed near Athens, Georgia. Possible, but HIGHLY unlikely.

RE: Bradley
Hey Debbie, finally found it, and got the text file, it states that Patsey was only a month old, so could you change her birth year to 1945.
Thank you,
Philip

Joshua Leathers - Highland Cemetery
Hi Debbie,
An individual posted on the internet that Joshua was relocated from the Beechwood Farm to Highland bases on a conversation with the cemetery, as cited in the web page. The cemetery just told me they do not have him listed in their computer.

However, I have been through this before when trying to find Benjamin and Thomas. They initially told me they did not have them in their records. After a couple more attempts, they told me they were there and sent me a plot maps identifying where they were buried, in unmarked graves. I can email you the two Leathers family plot maps as well as the Casey family plot map.

Lucille Hoops Sly (Slie)
Debbie, would you be able to give me the names on those other three stones beside Lucile Slie? I have found a cousin who told me that she died in childbirth. I'm curious as to who is there with her (Maysville Cemetery) and their ages, etc.

Thanks!
Debby

I'm pretty sure it's Nofsinger. Sometimes it's hard to differentiate between an f and an s on a weathered grave marker. Let me know what you think.
