Bio and Links
Bio Photo I'm a native of Virginia and graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. My career brought me from Richmond to Atlanta in the 1980s and Georgia has been my home ever since.

I became interested in FindAGrave.com and my family genealogy after my mother passed away in 2010. She was a proud native of South Georgia. I've posted many photos of my mother, family and friends so their memory will live on.

Very historic and the oldest known publicly-owned burial ground in metro Atlanta,
Decatur Cemetery is believed to predate
both Decatur's 1823 and Atlanta's 1845 incorporation.

One of the most historic and beautiful cemeteries in the South ....
Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia opened in 1849.

The Dash...
I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning to the end.

He noted that first came the date of her birth
And spoke the following date with tears.
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not how much we own;
The cars, the house, the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard.
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real.
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more.
And love the people in our lives
Like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile.
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy is being read
With your life's actions to rehash.
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

RE: Johnson Family Memorials
Thank you for the transfers and letting me know of the memorial. Do you know if there is anything left of old Johnson Family Cemetery? I found the listing on the Dekalb History Center online burial index. I am looking for the grave of my G-G-grandmother Louise Mann Johnson, who died 1853 in the Decatur area. She was the wife of Dr. Alex Johnson, son of Archibald, who later moved to Texas. She does not appear in their listing but an Alex Johnson does. I was wondering if the marker might have said "wife of" Alex Johnson??? Anyway, I put her memorial there - Memorial# 95926943
Thank again
Kathy
