William Thomas Nelson
Marlene: Thank you for posting on the entry for William Thomas Nelson who is buried in Wenatchee, Chelan, WA. I've been working on this Nelson line through William's cousin, Miranda Nelson (1860 IA to 1951 Salem, Marion, OR). The research problem occurs in the generation of William Thomas's grandparents, James Nelson and Frances Davis. According to the McDonald's (Miranda married James Francis McDonald), James Nelson was of Indian heritage; born in Mt. Sterling, Montgomery, KY, in 1785 and died in Texas in 1849. He married Frances Davis, thought to be the daughter of John and Elizabeth Sally Shafer,in 1809 in Montgomery Co., KY. The story is told, that James and Frances answered Steven Austin's call for settlers in Texas in the 1820's. They took boat down the Mississippi, out through New Orleans and across the Gulf of Mexico to Texas. Frances, died in 1824, on the journey. James is listed with 4 children in Texas in 1824, a widower and private in the TX Army (Mar-Jun 1836); wounded at San Jacinto and granted land in Colorado County TX. He remarried 12 Jan 1840 to Mary Slaughter; he had 300 acres and 10 slaves in later years. He died in 1849. The McDonald's claim that James and/or Frances were Choctaw Indian. William Thomas Nelson's picture certainly reveals strong Choctaw characteristics. I know many do not want Indian blood or to talk about it, but it's an interesting part of the history and we have been pursuing it for several years. Others who have similar stories or who can correct or shed light on our lineage through James and Frances will, hopefully contact us. Many thanks for your good work and for all you do for family history. prairiestitcher at centurytel dot net

Thank you ♥
Hi there,

I just wanted to leave a thank you note for your consistently remembering the Sewol victims on their birthdays. The victims of the Sewol have a very special place in my heart, so it means the world to me, seeing others remember them.

I hope you have a beautiful rest of your week,
