Gwen,
Words can't begin to say thank you for taking this picture and placing on here with the needed info. I just happen to be on my lunch break and thought to myself, I'll type in my dads name and see what pops up. Low and behold, I came across this and it just took my breath away! Love and many many thanks to you for all that you do. God bless you always!

Tipton Memorials
Gwen,

I cannot thank you enough for all the Tipton family memorials that you have posted for those remote cemeteries up there in the mountains of western North Carolina. I especially want to thank you for putting the maiden name of "Tipton" in the female line of Tiptons. Unfortunately I am no longer able to visit those cemeteries in those beautiful mountains since I was threatened by a distant family member last year who discovered that I am a gay man. Thank you again for all your selfless effort on the behalf of not only the Tipton families but all the other memorials that you post to Find a Grave.

Have a great day!

RE: Ledfords
Gwen,
Thank you very much for transferring my wife's close family to me.
I noticed a spelling error on the directions for the cemetery, that needs to be corrected. It's a small typo, on the word Baker's Creek Road; but it says Roard.
I can tell you where a couple more graves are out there, if you're interested. They are not easy to get to though. You would have to climb a small mountain that has a very rough unfinished road.
Bye

Ballew Cemetery
thank you for letting me know there are two Ballew Cemeteries in Yancey county. I have now placed Emma Gibbs McNeill in the correct one. Would you please post your photo of her marker to her memorial as it is the one linked to both her spouses and to which her daughter is linked and it was created first. I do appreciate your help with this.

ballew cemetery
It appears you may have duplicated the Ballew cemetery someone else began to document in 2009. Perhaps you could work with those who posted the earlier memorials for Ballew Cemetery and have Find A Grave combine the two cemeteries = if they are, indeed, the same place.

Gwen, I'm guessing the request is from Carole Alessi. She and I have been trying to find him for several years. She has a letter from a relative from long ago who said he was buried in Indian Grave Gap in Yancey County. We've been trying to see where such a cemetery might be, but haven't found anyone who knows. This is a tough one!

RE: William C Winkler's grandfather Joseph
Hi Gwen, sorry I assumed you were a relative of this Winkler family. Joseph's memorial is at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=18960555 I'm trying to figure out if anyone knows how this Joseph Winkler got confused with the actual CSA Surgeon Joseph A. Winkler who died in 1907 in Boston.
Thanks for any help.

William C Winkler's grandfather Joseph
Hi Gwen,
I'm researching the Joseph Winkler family and I see you took over William's memorial page so I'm guessing you're related. William's grandfather Joseph is of course also buried in Cool Springs, but I believe the inscription (ACTG SURGN CSA) on his gravestone is in error. Looking at Joseph's census records, it is indicated that he was a Civil War vet, but he lived most of his life in Murray County as a farmer - no indication of practicing medicine. As it happens there was a Joseph A Winkler born 5 or so years earlier in Savannah, who was a physician, but late in life moved to Boston where he died in 1907. It was Joseph's grandson William who ordered the CSA gravestone, 10 years after Joseph died in 1920. I believe that William knew his grandfather was a vet, but somehow got info on this other Joseph A. Winkler (the physician) and assumed it was his grandfather and ordered the gravestone based on it. Do you have any info that can show one way or the other? Thought I'd ask here before inquiring to the general public.
Thanks for any help,
Bryan Kercher
