I live in the Carytown section of Richmond, Virginia, USA, one time capital of the Confederate States of America. I grave the area of New Jersey to Georgia, mainly looking for family burials.|
And often in visits to random cemeteries I'll see neglected or damaged or sinking markers, so I tidy them up, take a picture and post it, feeling like I might be their last best chance to be remembered to some future researcher. We all have the same goal, we're working for posterity, and I think this data base has become a number-one stop for researchers, and all because we collectively archive.
I'm a U.S. Navy veteran, Vietnam era, duty aboard the USS Canopus AS-34. I raised a family, but lost my wife. I made a career in newspaper production, am now retired, and enjoy volunteer gravestone photography. The best way I've found to get a readable gravestone photo is to redirect sunlight to cast shadows across the carvings.
Anyone who wants to use my photos may do so, without restrictions. It's all for posterity. They have been posted here for you to use. If you want a transfer, simply ask for it.

You are most welcome. Thanks for the compliment and tip on using a reflector to redirect light.

well the marker is most assuredly not in section 1.I walked and searched the whole section, even brought a broom to clean the ones covered with leaves. I also did masonic 1 which is right next to it with no luck. I often take pictures and add them but dont actually verify sections. i will look for it in other sections

Thank you so much for locating the gravestone and posting the photo and information. It's so much fun to meet friends and relatives (some of which you may have grown up so close to and never knew were kin). It is especially appreciated for the long trip and number of ticks you incurred all for the sake of prosperity.
Thanks so much!

Thanks so much for the great Hanks grave pictures! With your permission, I'd like to include them in a Companion Disk for my cousin's book, "Abraham Lincoln's Hanks Family Genealogy", by Vicky Reany Paulson. I'll give you full credit for the photos.

Oh Rich! You made me cry---in a good way!! I knew from a 2nd cousin that his grave was on private property in a very rural area, and that her cousin who lives nearby maintains it. I was intending to get out there one day, but the description she gave of the property was not very encouraging!
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR THESE WONDERFUL PICTURES!

|Terry Goodwin||Norman L. Moon, Mt. View/Lower|
Just realized my mistake on Norman L Moon (2nd). Before week's end, I will get a correct shot and replace the shot of his parents' monument. I note that on the memorial you make a distinction between Lower and Mountain View; part of the easy confusion is that these interchangeable names are the same cemetery located in North Canaan, CT. The Lower you reference a few miles south is, in fact, Lower City (the neighborhood after which the cemetery was named) located in Canaan (alternatively South Canaan). I've lived here my entire life and still get confused when it comes to the Canaan area.

I have a few elusive relatives that I cannot find.. so I have been reading the OBIT's and posting. I really enjoy going to cemeteries and photographing but I cannot at this time as I have my 97 yr old father with me .... so I am back to reading OBIT's on the sofa. Any other names I can look for as I read?

|Terry Goodwin||RE: Mountain View ~ Moon's|
As noted, the picture originally requested was for a family member listed on the back of the Moon monument. The requestor also was looking for Ethel Moon MacKinnon. I sent along a note indicating that there was a marker on the Moon plot for her, but no memorial to post it to; I never heard back.
As to the front of the Moon monument, it is Norman, Augusta, and daughter Nellie Moon Roraback. I have a photo, but will try to get a better one if you wish.
