Family history exploration for me begins with Ottawa Co, Kansas, but of course led across the country. An inheritor of several generations of newspaper clippings, I started transcribing obits from microfilm beginning at the 1879 start of the paper and realized the value of reading them all in understanding my family's history in the region. A sort of 'community-based genealogy' habit grew and expanded, as did an interest in cemetery preservation and recording. |
Living now in a rural Kentucky county, our local history goal is to locate the old family cemeteries up in the hills, photograph and record. Most are hidden and overgrown; some remarkably well looked after by landowners whether related or not. And several are out there yet to be found...
Am happy to transfer your relatives and happy to help in the hunt for them.

Many thanks for the photo in Kansas. Not sure when or if I would have made the trip. Thanks again.

Hi there. I was curious about what you found at the Hawkins-Settle Cemetery, located in Mercer County, Kentucky. I was there 6 or 7 years ago and the couple across the street talked to us for quite awhile about the area. We had stopped to ask if there was indeed a cemetery up in the clump of trees. He acknowledged that there was but when we asked for permission to go up there, he wouldn't let us. He said that it would be full of snakes and it would be dangerous (it was in August). We were pretty bummed as I am looking for the burial location of my ancestors, Isaac Fallis and his wife, Betsey (nee Campbell). I have reason to believe that Isaac and Betsey lived VERY close to that Hawkins Cemetery and wondered if there is any evidence of a Fallis (or Follis) in there....or anywhere in that area. Thanks for any light you might be able to shed on this.

|Nancy DeWeese||RE: Mother of William Mall|
How do I do that?
|Nancy DeWeese||Mother of William Mall|
My name is Nancy Kay Mall DeWeese. William Mall(1861-1899) is my Great Grandfather. His mother was Eva Katherina Zilly (1836-1861). She was the first wife of Johann Christopher Mall (1831-1909). Christopher Mall is correct as Williams father, but Eva died in Belle Plaine,Iowa and is buried there.
