Bio and Links
Bio Photo This little child is part of a memorial in Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse. It reminds me of all the infants buried there. Hopefully I have provided memorials so they would not be forgotten.

I would be happy to transfer anyone, other than family, to you. Just contact me. And you are very welcome to use my photos in your family tree without asking, but my curiosity would like to know which ones are being used.

A special thank you to Tom C for helping with information on Oakwood Cemetery residents. We have entered every name from the cemetery records up through December 2013 into findagrave to hopefully help you in your search. Thanks Tom!

Picture of Grave request
I have been trying to locate the grave site of my grandparents. I believe they are buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery on Grolier Road (Onondaga Hill).
Their names are:
Ernest Schwarz b. 1862 d. 1950
Margaret Schwarz b. 1866 d. 1959

I also believe that an aunt is buried next to them.
Her name is Margaret Brower b. 1897 d. 1983

I would appreiate a picture of their headstones.

Thank you so much for all the work you have done over the years for families.

RE: Correction to Ada Emma Hitch
How thoughtful of you to offer to transfer the Family to me - thank you, I would be honored.

Catherine was a student of famous Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. She toured with Anna and then started performing on her own in the vaudeville circuit. She was at her height of fame when she died. Very tragic for Ada and Alfred. They were a very close family. The date of Catherine's death is correct. After much research, I found a couple of articles regarding her death. My mother (who was raised by Ada and named after Catherine) was told Catherine died of complications from ruptured appendix. Again, there always seems to be conflicting stories.

Thanks again Diane for your help and interest!

Theodore Dissell #140420248
Per the St.Agnes cemetery office people Theodore Dissell's body was disinterred in the early 60's - unfortunately they have no record of where it was taken to but it is not in the mausoleum at St. Agnes. Big mystery and I would love to find where he is. MK

RE: Sarah Stewart
It is a beautiful marker and I would really like to know who carved it. Sarah was the daughter of Sally Forman and William Sabine--she would have been Joshua Forman's niece. She married Royal Stewart (who was the postmaster of Onondaga Hollow at the time) in 1832. I think he may have been married before and had at least 1 child with his first wife. In 1835 he went to Chicago to practice law along with his brother-in-law William H Sabine Jr. (Assume she went too--can never tell with directory or census info) Their next census info is 1840 in Cleveland--with 3 children (at least 1 probably hers)Sarah apparently died in Cleveland in 1843 (cause unknown) This information comes from the Erie Street Cemetery files, some provided by a man named "Gresser", who was the sexton end of 19th century. That cemetery is partially closed down (like Rose Hill) and a lot of people were exhumed and moved. There is a notation that someone was disinterred and moved to Syracuse in 1912. (Sarah?) If that date is correct, there should be a burial permit associated with the Onondaga Valley cemetery somwhere in the town files.
Interesting story.

Diane,
Thank you so much for doing that. After searching so long, it is amazing to finally see it. My mother, who is almost 85 yrs has never seen it, so it means a lot.
Thanks again,

I do not remember if I contacted you or not but I am writing an article in John Redington for the St. Lawrence County Historical Association's Quarterly and I was wondering if I could use your photo of his grave, I will give you credit.

RE: Oakwood
Diane: Now that you mention it, I do not get any requests for Oakwood. The only city requests I receive are for Onondaga Valley and Walnut Grove on the hill. Most of the other ones come from Madison or Cortland county. Which makes no sense, as I live in the 13078 zip code. Go figure! Incidentally, if you run across any 19th cen gravestones signed by the manufacturer (usually on the base, lower right) let me know. I'm particularly interested in Robert Spaulding, Isaac and Sydney Stanton, and Joseph Watson. Thanks.
