Bio Photo DEAR ANCESTOR

YOUR TOMBSTONE STANDS AMONG THE REST;
NEGLECTED AND ALONE
THE NAME AND DATE ARE CHISELED OUT
ON POLISHED MARBLE STONE

IT REACHES OUT TO ALL WHO CARE
IT IS TOO LATE TO MOURN
YOU DO NOT KNOW THAT I EXIST
YOU DIED AND I WAS BORN.

YET EACH OF US ARE CELLS OF YOU
IN FLESH, IN BLOOD, IN BONE.
OUR BLOOD CONTRACTS AND BEATS A PULSE
ENTIRELY NOT OUR OWN.

DEAR ANCESTOR, THE PLACE YOU FILLED
ONE-HUNDRED YEARS AGO
SPREADS OUT AMONG THE ONES YOU LEFT
WHO WOULD HAVE LOVED YOU SO.

I WONDER IF YOU LIVED AND LOVED,
I WONDER IF YOU KNEW
THAT SOMEDAY I WOULD FIND THIS SPOT,
AND COME TO VISIT YOU?

Originally I thought Abraham was an uncle to Marion because of the dates. Now I see Abraham does not show up in the census. I have been going through old newspaper trying to find information about Marion and Nancy's burial. The way the gravestone looks, it appears that either Abraham was reburied with them or he was originally buried with a small marker and was included on a bigger marker when they were buried. They actually died in Dec 1928. This Web site has old Colorado newspapers: http://www.coloradohistoricnewspapers.org/Default/Skins/Colorado/Client.asp?skin=Colorado&AW=1399143967630&AppName=2
Search for "Gibbs" in Middle Park Times (Hot Sulphur Springs,Grand County) And you will find a lot. It is interesting reading. So far I haven't found anything about Benjamin Gibbs.

Thank you for asking, as long as it's for you're relatives/ancestry and not to make money, it's no problem.

I do not mind if you use any pictures that I have posted, most are 100 years or older and are public domain. I would like to see your family tree, can you send me a link?

Benjamin and Fanny Gibbs are the parents of Marion Albro Gibbs, George Gibbs and Alta Dinah Gibbs Head. In Ancestry.com there is some confusion about Alta and George being listed as Marion and Nancy's children. The 1880 census has them in the same household. Since Fanny died in 1877 and Marion and Nancy are only 13 and 11 years older then George, I believe they took the siblings in when their mother died. Marion is my 2nd great grand father through Charles Edward Gibbs. Tiffani

The memorial 124454350 is in a different cemetery and state. So I am not sure they are the same person as she did not have a stone for the memorial. And also I put my memorial in in 2012 and Susan Oldham put hers in in 2014.Also there is another Lewis Hedrick 53300784 by Pedro in Blackwell cemetery Oklahoma with a different stone.

Hi Sandy,
Thanks for info on Susan. Will have to get with Kate, if possible, & see what she has. I have created a memorial for Susan, which I'll delete.
