Bio and Links
Bio Photo I retired from Michigan State University Libraries in East Lansing to move to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2007 when my daughter got pregnant. I'm now a full-time grandmother and loving it.

I started doing genealogy in 2002 and am hooked. I try to make genealogy field trips every year and usually take pictures of all the tombstones at the cemeteries I visit. My mother's family was from the Boyd/Carter/Elliott County area of Kentucky and my father's from Barren County, Kentucky.

Please feel free to use any photographs (or information) I have posted. I'm happy to be able to help you in your research and I know you would do the same. I have found everyone I've met doing genealogy to be extremely generous in sharing information and I'm happy to return the favor.

Adkins Family Elliot KY
Pardon me I know this is not exactly the right venue to ask about genealogy, but I enjoyed your photos of the Adkins Whitt Clevenger folks. My grandfather was related to these people somehow, but he was given up for adoption to the Elliott Cty poorhouse and adopted by the Watsons. His mother was an Adkins and possibly his father too. My dad had a photo showing his dad and Roscoe Adkins, it hung in his living room for years, an old photo of them arm in arm, possibly at the brick factory where grandpa worked. Please contact me anytime at if you'd like to share info. I'd like to know for certain who my grandfather's parents were.

Isn't that just weird? Well, hmmm... I honestly don't know how to get it off of there. Guess we can just leave it with the note that states it's the wrong cemetery. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Wrong cemetery picture
Thank you for all your hard work.
On the memorial 69915702 you had added a picture of a cemetery.
This is the wrong cemetery. You added a picture of Piney Grove Cemetery in Advance, Davie County, NC. Don't know how it got on the Piney Grove Cemetery in Siler City, Chatham County. These things happen though. You are the only one who can delete. Would really appreciate your help in this matter. Thanks.

Hi, Becky you have been communicating with my cousin Shannon who is my cousin through James Aut Bays wife Hannah Hayes Bays. She gave me your info I finally had time to figure out how we are related. You mentioned to her James Aut Bays was your second cousin twice removed. I researched to find I am the second cousin twice removed to your grandmother who was the daughter of Winifred Bays your great great grandmother. Winifred was the sister to Charles William Bays who was my great great grandfather. I would love to get photos and info form you on the Bays Line.

Susan Browning White's Grave
Hi, Becky. Thanks for finally locating my great-great grandmother's grave in Texas. I am from Barren Co., KY & it has long been a family question as to where she was buried. It is a very sad story as to why she ended up there. Apparently she, her husband, John, who was born in Co. Cork, Ireland & their young seven sons set out for Texas with her brother & his family. The party made it to Texas where Susan became ill, died and was buried. They had not begun to build a cabin and lived in their wagon. John White took the boys and returned to Barren Co., KY. This story was told to me by my mother.

This would explain why no death certificate or burial site has ever been found in Barren County for Susan Browning White and why John White married a second time; to have someone to help raise seven motherless children.

Again, thank you for solving a family mystery.
