PLEASE NOTE - I will NOT process edits or transfer requests that are left in my messages. PLEASE SEND AN SAC via the EDIT TAB for these requests!

I'm Mandy, and I'm a happily married mother of one living in central VA. I've always loved cemeteries, and thanks to this site I've found a great reason to spend my free time there!! Any nice weekend or evening you might run into me and my lovely assistants (son and dogs) at a cemetery in the area.

Currently I am working on documenting, in its entirety, Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, VA. It is the second largest cemetery in Virginia, behind Arlington. This may take a while! I have to give credit to the many members who have listed memorials from Blandford already: Paula, Barbara, George, and many others, but most of all Susan - you are the best!

To my knowledge, I am of no relation to the memorials I've created, except for those listed here. If you find any errors or omissions in any of them, please feel free to contact me and I will correct them expediently.

I prefer that you use the Suggest a Correction function under the "Edit" tab to request additions/changes or transfers - it makes it much easier for me to find the specific memorial that way. If you send me a request and I do not address it within a few days, please re-send! If you re-send and still get no response, go ahead and list my memorial on here, because I'm probably dead. :)

Thank you for the photo of the SC Soldiers marker and the explanation of the mass grave etc. It was most helpful to have this info and to have the photo of the SC. marker. Thanks so much.

RE: John Alfriend grave transcription, Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA
What a lovely tribute to this man. My husband is his great-grandnephew. I appreciate the information.

Thanks,

RE: Major William H. Johnson
Thanks Mandy,
Will do -- I have requested a photo. Had forgotten how to request one. I appreciate the quick reply. Do you have a contact at the cemetery? I am assuming that if you are making records that there is no listing of all the burials . . .? If so, what a shame.

No worries on the language. I am a late 19th century historian so the use of the word "colored" appears quite often in the official documents. And, with the wide range of skin hues, for the lack of a better word, recognized by all segments of society, I understand that time period's use of the word. I also understand that today outside this historical context the use is unacceptable, but I just wanted you to that I understand and that we should know our history with all its issues. Thanks again for all you do.

Major William H. Johnson
Hi Mandy,
Wanted to ask if you could be so kind to photograph his marker for me. You state that you are working on the entire cemetery. How far along are you? And, can you tell me if there is an African American section in this cemetery? I am assuming so because of segregation and the Major was. Thanks so much
