Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is GenealogyBuff and I am a marine historian and genealogist living in Truro, Nova Scotia.

I have spent many years trying to uncover the names and faces of those lost in major disasters. As i have lost a family in the sinking of the Titanic, i feel compelled to ensure all victims have a name.I also spent a lot of time transcribing local cemeteries for genealogical purposes.
I focus my studies on shipping disasters, and if anyone is interested in discussing shipping disasters (to whom you will find on my page) i would be delighted.

Regarding memorials i have created: If a memorial has been created for one of your family members, ask and i will transfer it over to you.

RE: Richard Pengelly
According to my FamilyTreemaker software when I enter those baptism dates, both were born in a double year range on the switch of calendars. Kim has acknowledged that she sometimes did not adjust the dates consistently or noted calendar years shifted. It is always possible that they are not sisters but in my family tree I show them as baptised:

Grace 23 Feb 1591/92 (buried Grace Pengelly 24 3 1592 daughter of Richard)
Agnes 19 Mar 1592/93
My guess is that they were born a year apart.

Strange. you indicate that you are related to son Henry : Henry Pengelly 16 2 1603 Richard Jone)) who married Ursula Voaden (Vowdon) (Marriage listing 18 9 1620 Henry Pengelly Ursula Vowdon)

I have a Henry Pengelly b. 1593 d. 1656 who married Ursula Voaden b. 1595 (Ursula Vawden 15 5 1595 Richard) d. 1644/1645 daughter of Richard Voaden & Phillipa Harrye (see Bratton Clovelly baptism & marriage listings for this couple and her parents). They had 4 children:
Willia[m] Pengelly 6 6 1621 Henry
Hillary Pengelly 19 1 1624 Henry
Henry Pengelly 24 8 1628 Henry
Edmond Pengelly 1 5 1631 Henry

Only instead of Henry being the son of Richard & Joane (who in my tree I do not show as being married), I show this Henry to be the son of John Pengelly & Margery Webber (I don't show any direct relation of John to Richard but they could be cousins)
Marriage:
16 11 1590 John Pengelly Margery Webber
children:
Willia[m] Pengelly 28 11 1591
Voulson? John
Henry Pengelly 14 11 1593 John

Possibly you have the wrong Henry who would have been 10 years younger than wife Ursula (assuming mine is the correct Ursula).

If you provide me with your email, I could send you what I have on both Henry's.

RE: Richard Pengelly
Your Richard Pengelly is a distant relation of my wife. He married Johne (Joan) Horrell in 1591:

18 1 1591 Richard Pengelly Johne Horrell?

Until 1618, he was the only married Richard Pengelly living in Batton Clovelly when a Richard Pengelly married a Joane Soper

29 8 1618 Richard Pengelly Joane Soper

(I have numerous Pengelly and Soper's in my wife's tree but have yet to connect these 2 to anyone in her tree-their only child I am aware of was an Ethel born 1619)

Using the Batton Clovelly One Place baptism records-sorting on Pengelly you get 12 births-listing the Father as Richard:

Grace Pengelly 23 2 1592 Richard
Agnes Pengelly 19 3 1593 Richard
Grace Pengelly 6 6 1593 Richard
Jane Pengelly 1 12 1595 Richard
Mary Pengelly 30 1 1598 Richard
Millicent Pengelly 3 2 1600 Richard
Henry Pengelly 16 2 1603 Richard Jone
John Pengelly 29 9 1605 Richard
Richard Pengelly 18 3 1607 Richard
John Pengelly 10 2 1608 Richard
Thomas Pengelly 25 11 1610 Richard
Richard Pengelly 6 4 1613 Richard

In March 1605 there is another Richard Pengelly born to a "Joan" but without a father listed. However, since John Pengelly was born Sept 1605 I am assuming that was another family (probably an unwed mother). I have also been working frequently with Kim Baldacchino who runs the Bratton Clovelly One Place site who provided me with all the burial records to enter into FindAGrave (I only enter biography data and relationships if they are in my Family Tree) but she also helped to research on questions. I didn't look for her specific email, but my memory is that she confirmed that this Richard and Joan were the parents of at least these 12 children and had previously indicated that the handwritten baptism records frequently only listed the father.

Hope this helps you.

Seems like a far fetched story. Twenty six children, is that even medically possible? Good for a laugh anyway....

Hi, I see you posted a marker photo for Anne and her brother Alec. Do you remember what cemetery this was in? Thank you in advance.

Hi, I noticed you have a memorial for the mother Alice in one cemetery and baby in another. Do you know which is right? Are you related to them? My grandmother's (aunt? cousin?) died on the Eastland. Find A Grave Memorial# 16266908.

Memorial for those lost on the SS Norge
http://gda.arkivverket.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=NORGEP

This page from the Norwegian Digital Archives shows the name of Josefine Karoline Humborsted, age 15, as omkom (perished) aboard the SS Norge when it sank 28 June 1904. I didn't find her on your memorial list. Could you please add her, if she is indeed not there? Thank you.

Eastland Shipping Disaster
Agnes Olsen and two of her nieces(Edna & Mildred McCrory), the children being distant cousins to good friend James "Jim" McCrory. I saw this short film footage on the Weather.com on the wreck, a grad student found on Dutch news reals.. thought you'd be interested in seeing. Do a copy/paste of the link:
http://www.weather.com/series/uncharted/video/shipwreck-disaster-footage-found-100-years-later

Sad... but good movie pictures of the wreck after the accident.

Any ideas where they are buried? It sounds like she suffered from some form of mental illness to be frank, but hey, who knows. Hard to imagine a woman giving birth 26 times, not sure I believe it actually.
