I am a collector and amateur historian of early Space Related articles and Military history focused on the AAF in WWII but covering all branches world wide. I have been active in this field since 1990. |
The military history of my family got me started on working my family tree. When I don't have a photo of a member I start looking for there final resting place.
I have always enjoyed helping others in my military research and have also tried to do that in my family history search.
I am not in this for the numbers so I am glad to transfer to family. The whole reason for doing this is for the FAMILY of those at rest, which seems to be forgotten by some members. Maybe they get paid for there numbers? Hah!
I found this poem on fellow member Linda Dukes (46842176) page and really liked it. Linda lists it as Author Unknown. I tweaked it a little so this is my modified version. Thanks for this Linda, I think its great!
Poem for a Genealogist
Your tombstone stands among the rest; neglected and alone….
The name and date are chiseled out; on polished marbled stone….
It reaches out to all who care; it is too late to mourn...
You did not know that I exist; you died before I was born...
Yet each of us shares cells of you; in flesh, in blood, in bone...
Our heart contracts and beats a pulse; entirely not our own…..
Dear ancestor the place you filled; one hundred years ago….
Spreads out among the ones you left; who would have loved you so...
I wonder if you knew someday; that I would find this spot...
And come to visit you this way; though I did know you not.

Thanks for the reply Mark. Yes Paul went to Lanier. Paul had told me years ago that Michael was in a mental hospital of some sort. If I may ask, what did Michael die from? Did you know a guy named John Lunday? Sorry for all the questions, just curious.

Hi Mark. I am pretty sure I knew your brother back around the late 80's , early 90's. Did he live in Austin Tx around then? I only met him a couple of times but I still remember him. A mutual friend, Paul Browning knew him pretty well. Very nice memorial you have made for him. Take care.

Hello Mr. Dutton,
I was told you might have some information, maybe even photos of Sgt. Pritchard "Pete" Kilpatrick.
He was my father's cousin.
If you could send me anything you may have on him, it would be greatly appreciated.
On the volksbund-website I found the burial places of Lischinski (Köln-Südfriedhof) and Haase (Lommel). But got no hits on Freiberg & Petig.

I was at the Eupen communal cemetary this morning to find the memorials of Hans, Petig, Lischinski and Freiberg but they are not here in this cemetary...

Good evening. I would be very happy to claim your photo's however, I would need the plot number(s) as this cemetery is very hard to take pictures in. The office staff are very rude and turn anyone from Find A Grave away.
So, please feel free to message me and if you can provide the burial plot numbers I would be happy to take the pictures as this cemetery is only 5 minutes down the road. :)
Thanks for linking the parents to their children. Silly, I suppose, but I just enjoy seeing the families together; especially the babies. Would you mind if I post pictures and info on Historic Texas Cemetery site? I will give findagrave and you credit for any information I take directly from the site. Thanks again for connecting the Gray Family on findagrave for others to know.
