RE: 1LT Joseph Edwin Leagans
I put in a grave photo request...I removed my recent entry of him. If you would like to learn about some other DDAY soldiers check out my uncle Harvey Sigurd Olson.

Francis N Perkins # 25524775
There is a Application for Headstone dated Oct 1949 that states a headstone for Francis was sent to Lowes Methodist Cemetery in Reidsville, NC

His DOB is Sept 20, 1919
DOD is June 16, 1944

The application is signed by George Perkins which is his father.
I don't know if this means he was recovered and sent home, but I thought you might want the information.

If you would like me to send you a copy please let me know.

Hi sleeping dog, sorry the death certificate does say Newport News. I only sent that specific information to show my source of the dates that I submitted a change for. Sorry for the confusion.

Barbara , She is listed living with Jacob Luther Shepherd as his Niece in the 1920 census. As you know he was John's and Walter's brother. Her social security death claim application list Walter and Lucy as her parents. Its my belief after studying this considerable time , that her parents are Walter and Lucy.

RE: William Wesley Oakes
Cora Chilcutt was the daughter Of Francis Dean Chilcutt ,1st wife Harriet Faucett Chilcutt (They married 19 July 1856). Francis was the son of WElijah and Mary Chilcutt, brother to Rhoda, Branch, John B., Franklin G., Robert L., and Mary J.- 1850 Census Guilford Co., NC. Then in 1880 Census in Alamance Co., NC Harriet had been replaced by Cornelia, who was listed as "other" and Cora was 2 years old so sate of birth would have been 1878. She Married William Wesley Oakes 30 Sept 1894 in Guilford Co., NC. Their son Robert Franklin Oakes was born 4/17/1910, around 1912 Cora was working in the garden and got overheated and died of a heat stroke. William Wesley Oakes married Ada Smart April 26, 1914.

RE: PFC William R. Steele
Thanks, SleepingDog. I'm running a website about missing Marines from World War II, and was looking up information on PFC Steele when I found your entry. Would you mind if I used the photo you posted on the site? You can check it out at www.missingmarines.com

Cheers!
Geoff
