Bio Photo      I enter records here on Find A Grave to help others find the graves of lost family members. If you'd like me to fix and/or delete any of your family members please send me an email and I'll fix them as quickly as possible.

I'm currently working on updating and entered Soldiers and Sailors who "Gave Their All" during World War II. To see more on this project please click on my website below...

I originally started researching my Family Tree when my oldest son, Chris, came home from school one day and said that they had to write up their family tree as a project. This, of course, led me to many cemeteries and I quickly became interested in them also.

I've always enjoyed history and the two fell together.

Again, If I've created a record that someone needs deleted (since some families do not want their loved ones on the internet) or that you want me to update please let me know and I'll be glad to update it for you.

RE: Pvt George A Ley
I visited the cemetery last week and took 10 marker photos at random, then checked to see if any of them were needed on Findagrave and half of them were. Now I wish I had done more. It is truly a beautiful resting place.

Arlie T. Bright
Can you tell me who gave you the information on Arlie Thomas Bright pertaining to his marriages? There is a second marriage and children of that marriage that aren't mentioned. Just wondering.

Thank you,
Corinne Lyons

Birth date of Abraham Vandegrift
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=7744984

The inscription on the tombstone says:

Abraham Vandegrift
Son of Christopher and Rebecca G. Vandegrift
Died June 1st, 1885 in the 33rd year of his age

Not to nitpick but -- ok, I'm going to nitpick.

Being in the "33rd year of his age" would mean that he was 32 years old, which would make his date of birth July 14, 1852, not 1851. (I can't directly confirm the July 14.)

That's also consistent with the marriage date of his parents, which according to the information I have was October 9, 1851

Abraham was, as it turns out, both a blood relative of mine and a relative by marriage. My great great grandfather was Leonard George Vandegrift. AV's father Christopher was my LGV's brother. AV's mother married Christopher and later married LGV, both of whom were her first cousins. Port Penn was a small town, and it must have had some awkward family reunions.

Duplicates of CWGC/ABMC Memorials
Thanks for your response but I think you misunderstood me - I wasn't asking you to delete anything. In fact, what I was asking for was exactly what you said in your second paragraph. I have already earmarked a half dozen of my own to delete but wanted to see if you were interested before I took the final step. Thanks for your help - I'm afraid I'm getting a little frustrated as this is proving to be an enormous amount of painstaking work.
