I've lived in Muscatine, Iowa, since 1982 and have served on the city's Historic Preservation Commission. I am webmaster for the Alexander G. Clark Project http://alexanderclark.org/ and am active in various other local history projects including replacing our 1875 Civil War memorial. Facebook is the best way to connect with me these days.|

Please check your Edits of Find A Grave, thank you.
Are you still adding to your memorials? I have sent you information that has not been updated. If you are not interested in updateing, will you transfer those in Muscatine to me? I will care for them.

Greetings. During the course of my research to nominate Oakdale Memorial Gardens in Davenport to the National Register of Historic Places, I have come across some additional Iowa abolitionists for your virtual cemetery.

No, I can't say if the Orcutt family is related, but I do have many family members on my three sides in the Durant Cemetery where the Orcutts are buried. I do work closely with the cemetery board to get all the burial information correct, the plots numbers added, and who is related who. If you would like to transfer the Orcutt members to me, they will be very well taken care of. May O. Orcutt, may be on the gravestone, but some records show Mary Olive Orcutt. Perhapes space on the stone only had room for just May O. Just a guess. Thanks for you reply. Dennis

I added more Whittlesey's to Oakhill Cemetery that were included on John's family monument that you may find interesting.

I just saw an IPTV special about Alexander Clark and his life related to Iowa. Wow! Thank you for honoring him with this memorial.

I tried to request a photo of the stone for this memorial, but this is what was sent to me:
The general problem they reported is:
Cemetery office has no record of this person
They also reported, specifically:
could this be the person?
Finley Anderson (First_Last)
Regiment Name 3 Iowa Infantry
Soldier's Rank_In Pvt
Soldier's Rank_Out Pvt
Alternate Name Samuel F./Anderson
Film Number M541 roll 1
I don't quite understand it, as there is clearly an alternate name listed, which matches the name you have on the memorial. I think the Company varies, but otherwise, don't you think it's the correct individual? Find A Grave removed my photo request, but I put it back out there, with the above info.

Hmmm . . . I think my 4-great-grandfather was a half-brother of Rev. Samuel Findley's father, Judge Samuel Findley. Whew. It almost hurt to figure that out. SO, that means we are completely unrelated, right? Pleased to make your acquaintance, anyway. Thanks for sending the link to the Rev.--the info there is interesting.
