I am of Swedish, Irish, Scottish, English, Spanish and even Cherokee Indian descent. I am German mostly by marriage, but claim that as my "honorary" heritage in honor of my daughter and late husband as well as my current husband. |
I have a keen interest in genealogy and believe FindAGrave is an excellent resource for research. I not only focus on researching and including my own family on FindAGrave, but also some of the local families in my current home base in Southern Ohio to help others who don't live here. As for me, my mother was from Mississippi and my father is from Texas-most of my family research is focused in those two states where I've received a tremendous amount of assistance from local FindAGrave volunteers.
If you find errors in any of my biographical information on FindAGrave, please let me know and I will try to correct it. If any of my information was useful to you, I'd love to hear from you and if you are interested, I'll even give you my sources. I am also happy to transfer ownership of many of my entries. However, I prefer not to transfer family members as I am painstakingly attempting to link my relatives together. This is a work in process as I'm constantly finding new information.

Do you have an idea where the Stephens cemetery is? Address? GPS Coordinates? I live close by and no one seems to know about it.

I am related to all those buried in this tiny cemetery. Have you actually been to the cemetery? I tried about a year ago to find it and could not. There was someone from the local library that tried to help with a map but we could not find the spot. We were looking of Holly Springs Road leaving Hernando and going towards Hwy 305. I would very much like to find it and get some photos. But now I live out of state.....If I can get better directions I would come again to see it.

You listed his son Benjamin F., as a Confederate soldier. According to his widow, he served in Marmaduke's Cavalry Division, Company A (believed to be the B. F. McIntosh in Co. A, 1st Arkansas Cavalry)." However everything I could find shows he was in the 24th Infantry Regiment, Co H. This is my 3rd great grandfather so if you have additional information I would love to see it. Thanks

Hello Laura. Are you still active on findagrave? I ask because I've sent you repeated SAC's for 3 Banks memorials (in January and again in March) to no avail. I'd like to get you to correct some errors and add some links. Let me know, if you're still active, and I'll try again? Thanks.

Would like to request a transfer of ownership of the Old Stevens Family Cemetery. Thank you for your consideration. Stephanie Stevens
Ms. Laura, Forgot this. It appears you have duplicated Minerva. You also have her at Bethesda as # 34578638. Thanks, Larry
Ms. Laura, Some time back you established memorials for R.C & Minerva Garrott and placed them in Wright Cemetery. I have taken a number of photos at Wright Cemetery in Looxahoma and never found them. Today I photoed some Garretts in Bethesda in Senatobia and found a monument for Sue Garrott. On one side I found R.C. and the other Minerva. It is possible that this monument was placed here when Sue passed because R.C.&M.D. had no marker at Wright but I suspect that they are all actually in Bethesda. Do you have any insight to this? Thank you, Larry

Samuel was the son of Richard and Catherine Dean and was born in Pennsylvania-WRONG.....This Samuel was white and was the son of Richard and Priscilla, and was born in MD. His father's contemporaries, Richard and Catherine Dean, were black and Mulato and lived in PA.

Hi Laura - I just read your offering for Joseph at the McGavock Confederate Cemetery in Franklin, TN. Yes he is the man you think he is. I have requested Find A Grave correct his memorial. I am researching and correcting the entire cemetery. The information below applies to your Uncle:
Name: Joseph J. Dean
Rank: 2nd LT
Assigned to: 10th MS Infantry, Company A, Sharp Brigade
Death date: Nov. 30, 1864
Killed at the Battle of Franklin, TN
Buried at McGavock Confederate Cemetery on Carnton Plantation, Franklin, TN.
Burial Plot: Section 35 MS Grave 196
I have access to his Confederate Service Record which includes the following information:
Enlisted as Private March 27, 1861 at Horn Lake, MS.
Promoted to Corporal December 1862
Promoted to Sargeant August 1863
Furloughed for 40 days February 24, 1864 by General Johnston. (probably sick or wounded)
Promoted to 2nd LT August 1864.
Killed at Franklin, TN Nov. 30, 1864
Hope this helps you,
