In early 2015, the Golden Gate National Cemetery Photography Project completed its 3-year-long effort. The cemetery, located in San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, is now 98% photographed, with fewer than 2700 inscriptions to be photographed.|
Since March 2015, I have been photographing the markers in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma, San Mateo County, California. Only 10% of the 350,000 markers there have been photographed. Many of the burials are reinterments from the now defunct Calvary Cemetery in San Francisco. Theresa Miller is helping me to post the photos. We are currently posting photographs in Section G: Section F has also been photographed but the photos need to be posted. For Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery the San Francisco Genealogy website is invaluable:
We add new memorials as need be and add missing information and links.
Please contact me if you have taken a better photograph of a headstone for a memorial (e.g., with better lighting), and I will be happy to remove my photo.
Golden Gate National Cemetery Credits:
FAG members Samme Templin, Theresa Miller, Christine S., and Cindy S. helped post the photos.
FAG contributor Stewart Blandon completed Section 2E. Stewart also created an excel spreadsheet for the burials in the cemetery that has been vital for the project. Stewart and Kathleen Clemence added plot information to memorials.
FAG contributor Kathleen Clemence completed Section R.
FAG contributor Christine and Winmar finished photographing and posting photos from Section MA.
Notes on the Golden Gate National Cemetery:
Section A: Redo north facing markers starting with A-133.
Section E: Contains markers for 45 graves of German and Italian prisoner of war from World War II; there also about 100 graves of servicemen who died between 1865 and 1910.
Sections O to V: Completed June through Sept. 2014. Section R completed by Kathleen Clemence.
Section 2B: The northwestern end contains a large percentage of infants and young children.
To be photographed: The half of Section CA nearest the main entrance (Sections CA-17 and CA-18 are also not done).
I am currently interested in the Brocher, Lahey, Williamson, Weber, and Grumann families of eastern Wisconsin, particularly Manitowoc County.
I am also researching Nuzum, Wright, Wheeler families of western Wisconsin.
Finally, I am researching Welch, Belden, Dunbar familiies of southeastern Minnesota.

Found two photos on memorial #52749605 that you posted. I uploaded a photo of the correct memorial. Whomever put the plot # in put the wrong one. The obit and the dates are correct for the guy that I have a photo of and he's buried with all the people in his obit. Also, mine is William P and yours is William S. They died about a month apart.
I checked and there is no memorial for your William S yet. I have a feeling you'll be making one soon, eh?
I bet one of these weekends our paths will cross at the cemetery.

Tom, I assume you are searching for a photo of the above dated Walter, as there is a photo of the other Walter on Find A Grave in Spring Valley Cemetery, Monona County,Moorhead, Iowa. I have photographed probably all the stones in that cemetery that hadn't been photographed previously. Also on Kenneth and Shirley. I really investigated where they would be in the cemetery and even the Coates. There are empty places where the stones should be. So, I believe that since Kenneth and Shirley are very young, they didn't receive a lasting stone. I didn't find Walter either. I am sorry to report this. If I can be of further help, please ask. Shall I remove them from the photographs wanted list? Ruth Pickle

Thanks Tom ... Will take care of it...thanks also for everything you do. You are a true Find A Grave person who makes sure everything is correct and I respect that tremendously!

Thank you. I would appreciate it if you would transfer this memorial to me.

There is a duplicate for him, however, my memorial was made over a year before the other person made their memorial. Would you mind letting the other person know, as I have more information on his memorial and do not wish to delete it. Thank you!
|Squeak||Photo for Joseph O'Brien, Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma, CA|
The photo that is on the memorial for Joseph O'Brien, memorial # 105166404 should actually be on one for a new memorial (there is no entry yet for him - guess it got skipped over by accident?). I would make a memorial for that one, but since you took the photo, I thought you might want to create it. =) The one you posted the photo of was buried on 11/2/1904 and is in Section B, Row 15, Area 23, Grave 1. When you look that one up, you see all the other names that are on the stone you uploaded.
I only saw this because I also have a photo of Joseph O'Brien, buried 8/29/1904, which is the memorial you posted the photo to. Someone did a photo request for Isabelle O'Brien, so that's why I researched it. I uploaded the new photo, though his inscription is buried in the mud/dirt/grass roots. Gets pretty interesting when there is a bunch of people with the same basic name in that cemetery and died the same year, doesn't it?

May I have your permission to use your photo from this memorial in my Ancestry.com tree? Thank you!

These stones have now been covered up in Missouri. This issue has now been resolved. They were defective stones.
