Bio and Links
Bio Photo In the 1980's I started researching my Linn ancestors (without benefit of computer) but got busy with my sons' activities and put it on hold. In 1999 a cousin got me involved with my Steinberg ancestors and I have been going full speed ahead ever since.

Upon graduating from the University of Illinois my father obtained employment in the State of Washington, far from any relatives. My ancestors (after entering the USA)settled in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Montana, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and New Jersey - I want to experience first hand where and how they lived so I travel the country obtaining data, meeting people, seeing the sights and tramping cemeteries. I missed the "cousin experience" growing up and think that is why I enjoy genealogy so much -- meeting new cousins (who cares if they are 1st or 10th cousins)and sharing our family histories.

I am researching Linn, Gibson, Weir, Scott, Polk, Steinberg, Koerner, Mitten, Bennett, Switzer (Swisher), Slonaker, Shaw, Townsend, McCarty and Whitehead, Miller, Schroen, Glabe, Schafer/Schaefer/Shafer. I am also reseaching Dishon, Deshon, DeShon, Deschamps and Herrold for my two sons.

re; Michael & mary Nicholas
Pam and Jan,

After leaving my previous msg I discovered the information below at:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~barrone/babbs/cemgrace.htm

This shows that Michael and Mary were interred in "the oldest section, Row 1, Apostolic Christian Church SECTION of Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury, Livingston Co., IL."

This should clear up the confusion.

Like Pam Wagler I'm confused about the grave location of Michael & Mary Nicholas. The obit for Michael reads: "The Rev. J. J. Broquard of the Apostolic Christian Church officiated at the service. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery."

The findagrave listing at Graceland Cemetery was entered by me based on the obit information.

Have you physically seen this grave marker?

Michael & Mary Nichols
Hi Jan, First, let me thank you for all your hard work, I know it becomes a passion and is hard to find time to do it all.

I found Michael Nicholas #14574075 - Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury, Ill. and the headstone submitted, also a shot of the cemetery sign. Then I clicked on his wife, Mary (Wagler) Nicholas #98477376 and the headstone photo is the same picture, but the cemetery listed says it's the: Fairbury Apostolic Christian Cemetery with a photo of that cemetery sign. I know a lot of the Wagler's were affiliated with the Apostolic churches, so I'm wondering which is correct?

Again, thank you!!

RE: Mitten/Conarroe
The main cemeteries in Frankfort are Bunnell and Greenlawn Memorial Park. There are also Frankfort IOOF Cemetery and Old South Cemetery in town. These two are really old and I am not sure if there any burials in them anymore.

RE: Short
Jan, I do not find any Mitten in my cemetery records. I do not have any information on the West Yard, only the east side of the road.

I do not remember seeing that name in the West Yard as I went thru it yesterday. There are so many unreadable and broken stones over there.

RE: Berg Tombstones
You're very welcome!! That is why I always check to see who else is in the plot. Usually relatives that we didn't know are buried there. HAPPY HUNTING!!!
