Find a Grave reminder
Please do not post news article clippings or obituary scans in the photo section of memorials. This is against Find a Grave policy, detailed in the FAQs. Only photos of the person's grave headstone and grave site, plus a portrait photo of the person if available (personal photos that you own only), should be posted in the photo section.

Thank you,

What is Find A Grave?
Find a Grave's mission is to find, record and present final disposition information from around the world as a virtual cemetery experience.
Memorial contributions to Find A Grave should fulfill that mission - registration of the final disposition. If the memorial contribution corresponds with only the main mission, then the memorial fulfills its purpose as part of Find A Grave's mission.

There are now at least 44 in your virtual cemetery of burial unknowns that have found their real cemeteries. after my suggestions. Thanks for creating it so they were all together making it easy to research. :)

RE: Warren Clough
Didn't want you to think that I'd dropped you. I was checking the 'Alpha' Listing book. ELmwood always kept two books on each burial..the Daily Burial Log & the Alpha. In his case each said he was held there for a week or do and then "Taken Away". During certain eras of the cemetery the office would write in where a body was removed to, but not in this case. In 1877 ELmwood had a Receiving Vault where they temporarily kept folks when there was some question about the burial. SO....if his name is on that stone in Evergreen, it is just a cenotaph. His body was never brought back there. God only knows where he was "Taken Away" to. Sorry.

Ethel Christine Forbes Wolf
Ethel Forbes has different birth and death dates than the one in your Burial Unknown Virtual Cemetery and the mother of Arietta Wolf, etc. Her actual information, I believe is, Born: 28 Dec 1901 in Grafton, Jersey County, Illinois, and Died: 15 Feb 1958 in St Louis, Missouri,

I haven't found her actual burial.

RE: Jesse Taylor
Thanks. Not sure which memorial you are referring to. "Burial Unknowns" frustrate me to no end, especially when they are created for people who already have memorials with known cemeteries. I have been working many of the ones in your virtual cemetery.

Some, I found where they are buried with less than five minutes research and contacted the creators and asked them to move them to the cemetery. Others, where they already had memorials, I asked to delete their "burial unknowns" one, because they are duplicates no matter when created per Find A Grave rules and two, because the "burial unknown" designation is allowed for only 30 days without an update with location or disposition of the remains per Find A Grave rules.

If you check that virtual cemetery you'll find that several are now in Cemeteries. Two contributors, Sleepy Hill and Wanda Quinn Bradford have created both burial unknowns and legitimate memorials for the same person. Go figure. I have contacted them about those. Am still working some of those problems.

My wife has one cousin who creates burial unknowns for ancestors (not interested in spending the research time), then when we find them and create a legit memorial she moves hers and claims ours is the duplicate. It is difficult if not impossible to find burial unknowns sometimes, which is why, I'm sure, they are "outlawed" by Find A Grave.

Keep up the effort.
