Bio and Links
Bio Photo Thanks to all the people that have transferred memorials of my family members to me. I want to wish everyone a very healthy and prosperous 2016

I find it such an honor to be able to join people that have been separated for so long, especially children that died at birth or passed at a very young age. Even if just virtually it always gives me a special feeling so that others might not have to dig around to find they even existed in the first place.

For what it is worth, I want to thank all the selfless members who do this to honor and respect those who have passed. To sincerely thank them for the countless hours that they have contributed walking the cemeteries photographing or creating & maintaining memorials.

I thought I might borrow what Jeff Gonyea on his Find a Grave profile:

"We don't "own" the memorials we manage - they are not ours. We may create them, we may update them, we may transfer them to others - we are but stewards. They are Find A Grave memorials of human beings, departed. They are not "friends" on a social media network website to be collected like baseball trading cards. And there's no prize for the one who dies with the most.

The reward (for me) comes from maintaining the most accurate and dignified memorials I can. What we record becomes history, and a record in someone else's family tree. We have a responsibility to do a good job of it. It's a privilege and honor."

Well put Jeff and I just wish more of the people could soak these words in.

Joseph, the requested changes and transfers have been made. If the other two Northams are your family, make a request for transfer on their edit buttons.

FYI, you might want to check out facebook page of Downtown Medicine Mound Museum. I am not for sure where this family lived, but several little communities in the area used Big Valley Cemetery and still do. If you aren't on facebook, you may search facebook, then museum name and you can still view it.

If I may assist you in any way, let me know. I am a Board Member for both the Cemetery and Museum.

I am delighted a family member has found these folks. Would assume Thomas is buried next to Mary. We have over 100 unmarked graves.

Samuel Linscott edit
Unfortunately, I have to deny your edit for Samuel Linscott asking me to change his birth year from 1812 to 1811 and also adding birth/death locations.

Even though you made note that his birth information was based from records from the Maine Births & Christenings, 1739-1900, my understanding of what Find A Grave suggests is that the memorial dates should match the headstone, even if the headstone is incorrect. A note is to be made in the bio section, which I'll do, to note the difference.

I'll also add manually the birth/death locations you've provided me.

Kathy

Neppie Underwood Blount #75153850
Joseph, Regarding your edit that you sent me for Neppie Blount. Neppie Underwood Blount is the name on her tombstone in Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery in Washington County, Georgia. So that is the name on the memorial. Census records have been know to be incorrect so I do not rely on them to be accurate. Bob

Joseph, You sent me a edit for my wife's ggggaunt to change her middle name to Slade. Before I make that change I would like to know where you obtained that information. In all of my research I have never ran across that name. Thanks Bob.

I looked at this memorial and I can not delete the duplicate photos,(or at least I do not find a way) so I have sent the contributors a message to delete both duplicates. Did not realize there were duplicates. Thanks for bringing that up.

Lavina Smith
Thanks for your efforts to link Lavina to the correct memorial for her mother. Unfortunately neither memorial is correct. There is evidently a stone somewhere and from the way it reads it seems to be a memorial stone and not a grave marker. I have removed the parent links from Lavina's memorial and have refused your requested change. None of the parent memorials are correct as they are all listed as burial unknowns. I do not knowingly link to burial unknowns and it seems this one slipped past me. If the memorials are linked to a cemetery I will be glad to accept the links. Lacking that I will accept a Bio note showing that she is their child and listing their birth and death years.

Hi Joseph!

The only thing I can figure out about the headstone picture is that I might have found it on Ancestry.com. I can't imagine me finding that stone at a cemetery and not trying to get the burial information corrected. Not to mention I've only been to MO one time in my life! lol

But 2012 was a long time ago so I'll keep thinking about it and see if I come up with anything.

Have a great evening!
