Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been a high school US History teacher for the past 30 years, researcher, and collector of historical items mainly military items. I love to take these items to show my students and others that history is something you can touch. I recently returned from a year in Afghanistan with the Indiana National Guard. I volunteered after being out of the military for over 25+ years. Talk about seeing history - I saw it!

For the past 27 years my students and myself have been looking for the families and friends of the 1621 Indiana casualties of the Vietnam War. We did all the research for the World War II,Korean and Vietnam Memorials in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. If you can help please email me.

Check out these two links - Outstanding students.

August Carl Nissen
Delighted to see your photos of August Nissen and his gravestone. He was a first cousin of my grandmother, Wilhelmina Klumpp (1876-1971). I have four other photos of him in various uniforms plus one as a child. My brother remembers meeting him in Arlington, VA about 1952 when he would have been 80.

RE: Richard Cable
Hi Thomas,

Yes, I will transfer Richard Cable’s memorial to you, but I have a request. Would you please use the Edit tab on his memorial and ask for the transfer using the “Suggest any other correction or addition” link. Doing so makes the transfer process very easy and allows me to keep track of the memorials I have transferred. As a former Lake County high school educator, retiring in 2010 after 38 years of teaching, I appreciate and applaud your dedication to the profession and your service to our country.

Tom, it was my pleasure. When I go to a cemetery, I always look around for military veterans and take their photos, too. I saw 3 more Vietnam Veterans and also got photos for them. I don't know if it is any one that you need or not.

Take Care

Duplicate memorials
From FindAGrave Guidelines:
Before adding a memorial, search the cemetery to see if a record with that name has already been added. If you are adding a memorial for someone who does not have a physical grave or memorial marker in a cemetery (perhaps their ashes were scattered), please do a general search on Find A Grave (do not enter a location) to see if a memorial has already been created for that person. If you find a memorial has been added but has incomplete or incorrect information, instead of creating a duplicate memorial use the tools provided to submit corrections, additions or a transfer request via the "Suggest A Correction" link under the 'Edit' tab on the upper right of the memorial. Never deliberately create a duplicate memorial.
We have sent you several messages to delete all of the duplicates you have created in Chapel Lawn Cemetery. You have not responded.
Please delete them or we will notify Find a Grave. Thank you

Permission to Use Photo
Hi Tom,

I would like to obtain permission to use a photo that you have posted to Find A Grave. I would post this to my tree at for myself and others to view.

The Photo is of an Intent to Naturalize record posted to Pvt Phillip Pitz (Find A Grave Memorial #33520779). This Civil War veteran would be a brother-in-law to my great grand aunt. His bother, Henry also served in the Civil War, but most of his records have his surname as Pitts. It has been a hard road finding information on Phillip. And here you find a record for him in an antique mall. Thank you for posting it to Find A Grave. It has lead me to other documentation for him.

So delighted to see the photo you posted of my Great Grandfather. My Mom has never seen this photo before and we'd love to hear where you found it! Mom says he joined when he was very young, and lied about his age to get into the military. He looks like my son and my older brother when he was young.
