Peggy Smith Wolfe

I have been researching letters written by Mildred Case of Adamsville TN to my mother, Tiana Godwin. In a letter dated May 16, 1933,Mildred says, "Saturday we all went to the graveyard decoration at Mt. Vinson. Clyde Massengill’s family was there. It was their little boy buried the last Sunday of last May you know – Ernie’s little brother. They moved above Henderson last year." I cannot find a find-a-Grave memorial to this little boy; I don't know his name or how he died. But there is a story with the memorial for
Francis Marion Massengill, II, at the Leapwood Cemetery nearby that has me puzzled since there are two memorials with the same dates. Can you shed any light on this mystery?

Sorry I couldn't find it, but I do go to that cemetery a lot, and I always keep those I couldn't find in the back of my mind...just in case! :) So, If I should come across it, I will definitely let you know!

Mel :)

RE: Evergreen
Good morning.

I will see what I can find out as far as local articles go. I know the Siskiyou Daily News doesn't have much archived online but they're all at the library.

Next time I am up at the cemetery office I will go in and run a search for burial records for Mr. Smith. We have the date of death so that will make it easier to find. I would imagine that what they could find was cremated. I couldn't find him listed on find a grave but that doesn't mean he's not there at Evergreen.

I apologize for not asking before, are you related to either family? Also, what happened to Mrs. Smith?

RE: Sturgis and Smith at Evergreen cemetery
Oh my gosh. How horrible. You know, I think that may have happened down the street from where I lived. I wasn't born when it happened, but I remember my parents talking about an explosion across the street and down a couple of houses that happened before I was born. My mom was just barely pregnant with me at the time it happened.

A lot of tragedy in that family. Baby Leslie died just about a year and a half before they did. So sad.

Thank you for telling me. I'd like to know who is sleeping at Evergreen and the other cemeteries in the district. It's my job as a board member to watch out for their graves.

RE: Smith and Sturgis at Evergreen in Siskiyou County, CA
You are most welcome! I was sorry to see that the shared headstone is illegible. Theodore's headstone is pristine. I have a feeling that it was put in more recently or maybe it had been cleaned or something. The graves are in wonderful shape they are covered with concrete and they have vases built down into the concrete.
Douglas, Charlotte, and Theodore died the same day. I was thinking what a horrible tragedy that must've been. Do you know what happened?
Let me know if there's anything else you need, and no worries about misspelling my name. :)

RE: maziie Neff Burrell
While at the cemetery yesterday I saw a bench that is a memorial to the Burrell's, so I took a picture of it and placed it on Maziie's memorial.
I hope it is okay there if not let me know and I will take it off. Thank you Joanne
