I was diagnosed with Stage 4 lymphoma in July 2013 and am now in remission. This experience has taught me to leave good records for future generations. I try to only list family members and people that I have known. Quality is much more important than quantity. My great aunt got me started on this when I was in high school. She kept very accurate records and traveled all over the country doing research.|
This site has one big major problem I have found. Retired people or hobby seekers will walk cemeteries or scan obituaries without even knowing the person. You can usually tell these people by the quantity of listings they have. It is first come first served on whoever gets the listing and while families are still grieving, taking care of funeral home details, and going through their loved one’s belongings, someone is HIJACKING THEIR FAMILY MEMBER on this site. Many will not give up their listing to a family member’s control. That is a very sad fact of Find A Grave. I learned the hard way. Immediately put a name and date in before an obit comes out or you may be out of luck.
I have several family members listed with just a name and a year. I have family members who are listed in the wrong cemetery. I have family members with misspelled names, wrong dates, no biography, no photos, all because someone wanted to jump the gun and grab that listing. I was very lucky to have known personally my grandparents, most of my great grandparents, and even a great great grandma. I still have a quilt my great great grandma made for me. My great grandma had 13 kids and I am literally amazed that one was entered before I got to it and after asking was told “NO” transfers. The person didn’t even know my uncle’s middle name and the thousands of listings in their name made me sick to my stomach. I am sure these people think they are doing a good deed, however, wrong information is the same as no information at all. I had over 25 uncles and aunts that I knew personally not to mention cousins.
Nobody knows your family like you do. They talk about having to be a parent, grandparent, etc. to get a listing transferred, however, if they are deceased, you are basically out of luck and John Doe Lister can say just about anything he or she wants.
I have made it my mission in these golden years to fight if need be to get my family member’s information corrected in the very least. I will continue to fight if necessary for each and every listing I find that is wrong.
I have boxes of photos and have been adding things to listings as I come across them. If you get a note from me, please update the listing in the very least. The people that are no longer with us deserve to be remembered as accurately as possible.
My family: Huffman, Smith, Reinholdt, Brown, Hulvey, Garrett, Oltman, Darnell, Berkley, Siders, Mariner, Frahm, Fuchs, Pearson, Strickland, and other extended family members I have records for.

That would be wonderful if you could add photos to their memorials. I would appreciate it!

Thanks for letting me know about Earl's final resting place. It has been changed from Springdale (the place listed in his obituary) to Resurrection Mausoleum. I, too, am related to the Cattons. My G-g-grandfather Holland Catton was an older brother of John Catton, Earl's grandfather. How are you related?

Lakeside and Lakeview are 2 separate cemeteries with Lakeside, the largest, on the West side of the Highway 29 and Lakeview on the East side.

Sonny, let me know if I have any other memorials you would like transferred to you. one of the reasons I make the memorials (besides the obvious ones) is to beat those number horders to it so that I *Can* transfer them to those with any interest. Sad but such is Find A Grave. I'm now concentrating on Billion Graves which has none of these "ownership" issues. Cheers.

I have transferred your ancestor over to your care but did not add the place of his birth as Sticklehanmperfelm, Ostfreisland, Germany as you suggested I do in your SAC. No such place exists under that spelling. YOu can now add what you like to it. Cheers.

Thanks very much! Gwen

May I have your permission to use your photo of Springdale Cemetery on my ancestry.com family tree, with attribution to you? Thanks very much for your consideration. Gwen
Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to post the photo of her memorial marker, as well as her quilt and her photo.
