The Hunt

It started young with bedtime tales
Of years that had gone by
Gramps told of how they use to live
And how they all had died.
It made me wonder who they were
And what they all had been
So the hunt began for names & dates
To look up all my kin.
I knew there were some famous ones
Like Daniel Boone and Dewey
But had no idea that I would find
that most of them were screwy!
Like old maid Flo who had a fear
Of men and all their groping
She wore a whistle round her neck
(... but I think she was just hoping!)
And then I found an Uncle George
Whose stories send you reeling
He was caught with someone's horse
So they strung him up for stealing.
Next I found old scarlet Lucy
Who ran a house of sin
Till they closed it down & locked her up
For her wicked way with men.
After hearing bout Grandpa Henry
I put my hunt to rest
Could take no more afraid I'd find
That my bloodline's not the best.
So be prepared when you start your hunt
For those ghost that once lay hidden
Could raise and haunt you in the night
And you might regret the diggin!

RE: Tryon Grave Photos
You are very welcome Suzie. I will have to go back at some point to find Charles Tryon. I found Frances his wife but will look closer for Charles. My research shows they both died just a few days apart in 1885. He may be on the same stone but I did not take the picture of the other sides of the stone if it was unreadable. I'll double check next time.

RE: Margaret Rayburn Dawes Bates
Hi Thanks, I have lots to post for her. That grave has 1/2 of my moms cremains so she could be near her sister and her other half is with my dad at Valley Center. Per her request.
So I linked her to both places. Thanks for passing it on to me and also putting it up in the first place. I am linking all our ancestors on moms side. And I was not quite ready to add her because it was hard to do so soon. With dad gone and the long winter nights, I have the time now and the desire.
Thanks again, Kathy

RE: Dewsnap
I found some others, not sure if you have them already or if you found them in your family. The names are G. Dewsnap, George P. & his wife Josephine C., Charles M., Jason C. & Mary Dewsnap Francisco. If they are & you would like their dates & pictures of the headstones, let me know, I have them & I'll post them for you.

RE: Sarah Youst
Oh my goodness, Suzi, I just read the first part of those stories. Those are wonderful!! It's a shame that everyone doesn't have someone like him in their family. Or at least someone to write all those things down.
I love finding new cousins. My branch of the family stayed in WV. If I hadn't found you, I probably would have thought all those hints on Ancestry were someone else.
I don't have really cool stories about my branch, but my tree on Ancestry is public, if you would like to check it out.

Sarah Youst
Hi, I was looking at your memorials and noticed that you created two for my 2x great grandmother. One has her burial place and the other doesn't. Are you related to the Youst line? Love the poem on you profile.

RE: Maj Henry Wisner, Jr #37846006
I'm afraid I don't. I'm finding conflicting information on my searches--one source saying she died in Springfield MA, the other Middletown, NY. You might want to request a death certificate from both places and see which one can actually deliver...

She is living in Middletown NY at the time of the 1920 census as head of household, with her brother Henry and his wife Jane.

I'm a little confused about the Dewsnaps shown on FindAGrave in Orange County--it would appear that two people entered the same data on the same day but in different cemeteries... There is quite a distance between Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery and Walkill Cemetery (in Walkill/Middletown).

I'll keep my eyes open should I find something and let you know.

RE: Maj Henry Wisner, Jr #37846006
I think you'll find that the dates don't work and that you're missing a few generations...

William Roberts Dewsnap Sr married Sarah Steele Tryon

Sarah was the daughter of Samuel Tryon and Eliza Ann Wisner

Eliza Ann Wisner was the daughter of Henry Barnet Wisner and Ruth Carpenter

Henry Barnet Wisner was the brother of Sarah (Sally) Wisner who married William Steele

The Wisners are a confusing bunch since they used the same names in many branches and generations. Hope this helps. Let me know how this meshes with your research.

Chico Basin/Hanover - Mary Hayward Hanna Frost
You took the marker photo, I believe.
I wanted to know if there's a sexton/office where I could write.
I want to know where Mary died. Not in SSDI. If there's more info from the cemetery records, it would be nice to know.
She's my great-grandmother's sister's daughter.

Thanks for any help.

RE: Gertrud Fleckenstein
Yes, Suzi, she did. Joseph Fleckenstein was my grandfather. How did you come by Gertrud's and Joseph's names? Do you have information on Gertrud? I know quite a bit about Grandpa but not much about Gertrud.
