If you notice any mistakes in my info on any pages I made please let me know and I will fix it.|
If you want to use my pictures in your family research files or whatever it is fine with me.
If I have added any pictures to any pages that do not look too good and you would like a better picture of the gravestone be sure and ask and I will see if I can possibly get a better picture.
I am a direct descendant of the Richard Haines who left England aboard the ship "Amity" in 1682. He died on the ship and his wife and kids settled in NJ. Richard was my 6th Great Grandfather. There are a lot of Haines in the US from this Richard. Nathan Haines of OH was my Gr Grandfather. Ebenezer Haines who married Rebecca Berry was his father. Nathan Haines married Sarah Iiams in Grant Co., IN. I have also done a lot of research on the Iiams name. My Grandfather E. Morton Haines was born in Grant Co., IN in 1865 and moved to OR in 1892 where he lived out his life. I have a lot of family connections to Grant Co., IN.

Nathan....after I sent SEND I thought I should tell you that IF you ever want to be a part of our "band of angels" let me know. There is about 6 of us that spent 2+ years getting all the documentation for the Milwaukie Pioneer veteran markers...perhaps you saw the television or newspaper coverage about 2 months ago. ANYWAY we are moving on to another Pioneer Cemetery and are beginning the long search for unmarked graves and the research required.

Written by the family; payed dearly to have printed in this newspaper.
Now please post the damn thing!

Finishing up - with two others - a complete cross check of all the Find A Grave memorials to the Milwaukie complete list of burials to see who doesn't have a Find A Grave memorial AND who aren't on the list of the Cemetery! WOW what a job and then our task of finding 9 unmarked veterans (7 Civil War and 2 Yakima Indian) the research info to get them grave markers from the VA and as complete of a list as we can make it for the Cemetery....then we are moving on:)
Nathan, I check the Wilhelm Portland Memorial Mausoleum. Anson Matthews had NO record at the Mausoleum. The records indicate that Truman and Jessica were not interred at the Mausoleum.
IF there is anything more I can do to help you - PLEASE let me know

Thanks for the lovely photos you put on Archie's memorial! It adds so much to the memorial page when pictures are added. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
|Michael Burley||RE: Henry Gurtler Memorial# 149020155|
Well, that's interesting. Henry Gurtler appears in the 1900, 1910, and 1920 federal census living in the Macksburg Precinct of Clackamas Co., OR.
As an experiment, I did some record searches for Henry Gunther. There are no census records in the 1900, 1910, or 1920's. A broader search yielded an Oregon Death Certificate.
Henry Gurtler's gt.-gt. granddaughter tells me he died after working with a road crew all day. Apparently it was too much for him (at age 68). I stopped by Zion cemetery yesterday to see if I could find & photograph his grave marker. I was driven out by the heat before I could locate it. Will try again.
I'm confident Gunther/Gurtler is a transcription error. The original death certificate would have most likely been hand written by the attending physician.
Thanks for your diligence!

I've submitted a revised death date & location that I got from one of his descendants (a cousin of mine). I have Henry's 1913 naturalization application that confirmed his DOB. Gortler and Gurtler are two distinct family names in this case. I have relatives in both lines that I'm researching.
