RE: Christmas
Merry Christmas to you, too, Bettina!
Yes, I'm a huge fan of the silent era! The first film of Mabel's that I saw was "Tillie's Punctured Romance" from 1914. I was so shocked at the time (it was about 17 years ago) that the place where I rented videos actually had it! I'm so glad they did because that movie made me a lifelong Mabel fan. Her life was so tragic, though. For such a funny lady she had to deal with so much sadness :(

RE: Fred Gorcey
Yes. It's the last half of the second stanza. Sorry I forgot the attribution.

Another of my favorites from the same poem:

"Thanks to the human heart by which we live,
Thanks to its tenderness, its joys, and fears,
To me the meanest flower that blows can give
Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears."

Of course you can!

Waters on a starry night
Are beautiful and fair;
The sunshine is a glorious birth;
But yet I know, where'er I go,
That there hath past away a glory from the earth.
