Hello from New Mexico.|
I've been excavating and cataloging pioneer cemeteries for over 30 years. In the 1980s I even published a few works on the subject. Like most of you, I'm also an avid genealogist. While I enjoy finding the graves of famous people, I'm more interested in the common soldier and pioneer. Every one of them has a story.
As for genealogy, I am currently working on the surnames Trine, Minter, Dozier, Shackleford and Marquez. I'm also collecting the names and graves of the Maryland 6th Infantry.
I'm usually "on the road," so my photos come from wherever I happen to be. I've had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of wonderful people who share this love for history. Contact me if I can be of any help to you.
ABOUT TRANSFERS: I am happy to transfer anyone who is not my direct ancestor.

Have you checked out Henry County, VA in your research of the Shackleford/Minter genealogies? You might try the Bassett Historical Center Henry County, VA. They have a large collection of materials that might interest you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to add pictures to my buddy Blake's online memorial. It means a lot to me and especially his family to be remembered in this way.

Thank you for finding and posting my great uncle's tombstone. Edmund's date of death had been a mystery date for a very long time. Would it be possible for you to send a copy of the photo to me?
Either way, Thank You again. Anna

First, thank you for permission to use the pictures. It is strictly non-profit. I love being able to put faces with the names.
I am researching the Myerly line. I believe we shared some information several years ago when I was just getting started. I just got back from working on part of the family that went to Iowa and Indiana.
The Welks come into the picture much later. My mother's mother's mother was a Myerly and my mother's mother married a Welk.
We went to West Virginia to find out why Peter Welk was buried there, but could find no other trace of him except for his tombstone. I know his son grew up in Carroll County, but not much else. I am going to go to the state archives to see if his son's death certificate lists who his mother was. I just know she remarried. I have searched in all the neighboring counties and can't find a marriage record. In his obit it states that he is survived by his mother.
I do have the complete service record for Henry Welk, should you need anything from it. It's about 3 to 4 inches thick. Both Welks died young. I will have to go back to the archives in DC and see if I can pull his complete file.
Again, thank you for all that you do on Find-A-Grave and for your efforts to preserve the old tombstones.
