Esther Melinda Davis, age 87, of Olustee, passed away at her residence Saturday afternoon, July 27, 2013, in Olustee.
Mrs. Davis was born on March 5, 1926, in Washington County, Illinois, to Charles and Ida L. (Meyer) Barkau. While living on the family farm, near Johannesburg, Illinois, she attended school in Johannesburg. Leaving school in the eighth grade, Esther worked at several restaurants over the years. Eventually she moved to Lawton, Oklahoma to be with some friends and she met Kestle Davis who had retired from the Army and began working for Civil Service. In September 1980, Esther and Kestle were married and they established their first home in Faxon, Oklahoma. In 1982, Kestle retired from Civil Service and they moved to Olustee to be near friends, where she lived until her death. A homemaker most of her life, Esther enjoyed reading books, especially her Bible. Cooking, baking and spending time with her family is what she enjoyed doing in her spare time
Preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Leroy Barkau, Stanley Barkau and Roy Barkau and her husband Kestle, in 2002, she is survived by two sisters, Gladys Barkau of Olustee and Leona Schrader and husband Ralph of Okawville, Illinois; one step-daughter, Ann Lane of Knoxville, Tennessee and many nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Esther Davis will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2013, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Max Gunn and Debbie Kulbeth officiating. Interment will follow at the Olustee Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

Hello Sir,
I was at Eckis today to locate Jame's grave. The road crew was there cutting grass and one of them went back to the office to get an exact location for him. He was buried in an unmarked grave in the section where they bury the poor. The gentleman helping me said there may be more data on him in records they keep on people. I'm trying to locate his military data because your request says he may be a soldier you are looking for.
I will post an image that says no marker on his memorial so any further searches will know he has no headstone. If I can prove he was military I may be able to contact our Veterans and see if one can be put there for him. That is all I can do for now. Will message you with further information when he contacts me.

Sincerely, Your Ohio connection, Dianne

RE: Charles A Krebs # 49242069

Thank you for writing. I do not have anything concrete that says that Charles was in the Airborne. But it is alluded to that he served with the Rangers in Korea and was an advisor to partisan fighters there.
