If you follow the records and sources for Zachary McGill it clearly points to IN as his birthplace and not KY. His parentage and Cecil's father Charles Terrell's are a mystery. If there is a copy available of Zachary's dc that could help give something.

That would be neat if the death certificate could be uploaded to Ancestry & F.a.G. Where it was Cecil that shows he was still alive in the mid 1920's but he seems to disappear in records after his 1923 marriage. His mother "Molly" passed in 1919 and he would have been in his 20's by then. Cecil & Molly were in Zach & Malinda's home in 1900 and she was already a widow by that time and Cecil looks to be her only child. It doesn't appear she married again. FYI the notes on the F.a.G. account for Zach there is no Russell Springs, IN...there's a Russellville, perhaps that's what you meant? I haven't been able to locate a Thomas Mcgill in Putnam, IN in the 1840s yet.

Ohio County marriage index is where the Poling maiden name came from I believe. They got married in 1839 and unfortunately at that time they didn't list the parents (a lot of the Lees were marrying at this time and the females' parents weren't listed). The obit that Lee Ann put in Ancestry does say Paulin. This is the "joy" of genealogy. They just weren't totally accurate. It depends on what her situation was. Remember the Lees and those they were marrying were farming folk that didn't have lots of education and probably very little. They had the simple life and yet challenges of growing and killing their food for survival. I haven't been able to access Monroe County records to see if a will might mention something. It is still difficult to track down some of their kids. We know they exist from some few records, but details have been elusive. This couple has had more of the bare bones of info that's why the obits were so great to see.

The stone may be original I couldnt enlarge pic you put on there. They may have added it in the 20th century too. Going off a few sources it looked like she was born in the 1820/1821 time frame. Wish I knew who her parents were. Her death cert says she was born in Perry Co., OH. She was married before she would have been listed in a census and no birth records exist for when she was born. George, Joshua & Hannah have been a mystery as to what happened to them as well.

John Walter Powers obit
WOW!!! Thank you Doris, this is wonderful. I had a feeling he was ill, since the entries sort of hinted at living life to its fullest and to keep his hopes up. Just so sad. The last entry was Oct 12, 1886 from Silverado. My property was once part of the 1890s Mason Mineral Springs where people came for health. People came to the canyon for its climate and dry air. Thank you so much for all of your time, really brings Walter to life sort of speak. Will display the book, and a photo and info on him in my cabin as a interesting conversation piece. Again, thank you Robert Hoadley

John W. Powers
Hi Doris,

The number is 40255969 on John W. Powers (he went by Walter) Find A Grave memorial. Looking closer the the autograph book, the last entry was Oct 12, 1886 and he died Nov 25, 1886. So he died soon after someone wrote in his book and this person lived in Silverado "Canon" Canyon, CA. (they used the Spanish spelling of Canyon which I find interesting). At the time Silverado was a booming mining community that soon faded away for the most part, just after he visited. He may have come to be a miner there and I wonder if he actually died there? From the few entries, all of them from June to Oct appear to have been written from Siverado. Cannot make out the writing on his stone at the very bottom, sadly it is laid flat and might have been worn? Thank you, Robert

Arthur Turner #148647857
Hi Doris - Adding middle name of Hampton to Arthur's memorial. I will also take a picture of the marker, if there is one, this week. I don't think there is one, as I have photographed the cemetery and most of the memorials I am creating now are from the block/cemetery records, that have no marker. But it may be possible to find a temp marker for him and I will ask the grounds crew to check by digging for one. Block 15 is tricky. I will email you about that if you are interested and if you have family to update info to.

Thanks for your information and updates!

My George and Harry Turner were in Indiana. I don't think related to Arthur - but you never know...Still researching my Turners.

John Walter Powers
I purchased a small autograph book once owned by John Walter Powers that beings in 1885 Iowa and states he left for California Dec 15 1885 that night. Last entry date is October 1886, a person in Silveado "Canon" (Canyon). I purchased it because I have had a cabin there since 1989 and is of historic interest for me. Several of his friends and relatives wrote in it. Sad to think that he passed soon after the last entrance in Silverado Canyon, California. On the stone, it appears to have something written. Wonder if he died in CA?
