Hello, I am Diana(Smith)Brown. I started researching my family history and genealogy about three years ago for the purpose of having information for a family reunion I was planning. I am the next to youngest of my siblings and unfortunately my grandparents and many of my aunts and uncles on the Smith side of the family passed on before I was born or when I was very young.
Also, on the Pettit side, my great grandfather and great grandmother died young and my grandfather Dewey Alexander Pettit was placed in Oddfellows Orphange in Pennsylvania as a young boy. My grandmother Pettit (Edna Lucille Dyer) was adopted and estranged from her siblings. Therefore, my mother had very little knowledge or ties with her aunts and uncles or grandparents. Thus I had even less information and considerably less photos.
Consequently a void and an intense interest survives. Although I admit it has been quite frustrating at times trying to find all "the pieces to the puzzle" has become a huge and compelling passion of mine.
I understand those of you who are searching for those missing pieces and I hope that my contributions to this site will be "the one" that connects the others together for you.
I wish you well on your hunt, and thank you sincerely for your effort at remembering and honoring all who have gone before us.Please let me know if I can help in any way.
The family lines I am researching are Smith(WV), Pettit(OH),Dyer(OH),Cox(WV),Webb(WV),Beall(WV)and many more. | |

 | Sycamore Baptist church cemetery hello, I noticed that you took the photo of the sign for the Sycamore Baptist cemetery and wanted to know where it was located. I am in Ohio, but have been researching family a lot in west virginia and have discovered I have quite a few in that cemetery. But I cannot find a single direction, anywhere... I noticed in the photo that it looked like a two lane road, which is a good thing compaired to some of the other cemeteries I have had to 'hike' to... I usually come down 77south, so if you can give me a general direction on how to find it, I would be most grateful. thanks Denise | | | Rosa Nutt

 | RE: Re: Benjamin Dyer photo You are very welcome! Let me know about John & Robin if find out if they are there at the cemetery, but the lady looked up the names I had on my paper and told me there wasn't any record of them there. When I went to the section she told me to go to for the other Dyer's, their stone was there with the other Dryer's. I wasn't sure what to do so I thought I better wait to see if I heard back from you after finding the other requests you had for the other Dyer's.Carla:)Added by Peace4me on Aug 16, 2012 4:48 PM | | | LCR
 | RE: George Parsons photo Thank you for showing your appreciation. It's my motivation for attempting to fill photograph requests.Added by LCR on Aug 15, 2012 5:44 PM | | | Peace4me
 | RE: Re: Benjamin Dyer photo You are very welcome! I took a photo of John & Robin Dryer too, but there isn't any year of their death on the stone. I wasn't sure if I should post their photos. I asked the lady in the office at the cemetery and she said they didn't have a record on them. Do you know for sure if they have passed away? The lady said maybe they decided to be buried somewhere else. I took a photo of Flora Elizabeth Dyer, Thresa L. Dyer, and Sharon Joy Dyer. They were altogether in that one place. Carla:)
