I am a 'farm girl' who grew up in central Iowa, but now live in northeast Iowa.|
I found my great grandmother's headstone on Find a Grave quite by accident and have been hooked on this site ever since.
My goals are to try to leave a legacy for my children and grandchildren by connecting them to their family.
I also want to help other people find their relatives and friends. I am so happy to hear from a family member who has found a relative or friend through a memorial I created.
I recall the tender message from a woman who wrote to thank me for the memorials and gravestone photos of three little children born in the 1880s. The family moved on, and the wherabouts of the children was unknown to succeeding generations. The children have not been forgotten!
I am not interested in amassing large numbers of memorials. I am interested in connecting family members.
I am fine with transferring memorials (unless it's my relative) to someone who will add information.
I have posted many memorials and photos from various cemeteries so you can gather data for a person. I will remove a memorial if it is too sensitive for you, and I will remove any photo you do not want on a memorial.
I usually try to make informative memorial pages for people. I also try to connect family members within a cemetery or area by researching the family. This takes time, so the memorials I've created are never "done".
I do not know everyone for whom I created a memorial. Please let me know if you notice an error so it can be corrected. I want to have true and appropriate information that may help others search.
I make edits sent to me as quickly as possible (often the same day). I appreciate knowing about obituaries added to memorials I have created so I can make links to family.
I am happy to share photos with you to use in your family albums. Email me using the edit and SAC tab on any of my memorials. I do not post my email address.

I took gravestone photos of the entire cemeteries at Lynwood, Antioch, Old Town and Pleasant Valley Cemeteries near Clarksville, Iowa; St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Greene, Iowa and Paton Cemetery in Paton, Iowa.
I added quite a few photos for McCallsburg Cemetery and will be taking photos in several Butler County cemeteries soon.

I did add your information but put his spouse as Stella D. Creger, she is buried next to him. I have a book from the cemetery with the plots so I did add them to both memorials. I will try and get out to take pictures but don't know when I can do it.

Find A Grave's address is email@example.com and just let them know the problem and the Find A Grave member number, and also the burial ID which you want edited. Sometimes the other Find A Grave member might be inactive, or deceased, etc., but if not then there's no reason why they shouldn't work with you.
If you need something in my area of NC, just let me know.

Remember, if Ms. Dodge won't correct the burial location then let them know and they'll correct it for her (you) and then you can delete your record.

Thanks for adding the color photo of my great grandfather's stone. I live very near the Rooks Creek cemetery. If you are in the Pontiac area again, please call me so we can meet. My name is in the Pontiac phone book.

Posting names from lists has risks since they may be wrong. I sent a note to Findagrave to merge them if they are the same. As long as Find A Grave lets members create cemeteries without validating them there wii be errors. Plus, names of cemeteries may have changed over the years, but people not from the area wouldn't know it so they create a new cemetery.
The Hale cemetery inscriptions for the town of Somers are located in Volume 44. If you are accessing the collection on Ancestry, the 1st page is index 315 of 708. There are around 100 pages of inscriptions (4 cemeteries)to go through.

Marylinn - I would look in Somers, CT where according to the Barbour collection of CT vital records he lived and died. John Bowman also has him dying in Somers. My first stop would be the Somers Historical society (they are on the internet-just Google) and the Somers town clerk's office. The DAR may be another resource.
The Hale cemetery inscriptions are poorly indexed on Ancestry. A search for an individual will lead you to a newspaper notice but not necessarily the headstone cemetery record. As best I can tell those headstone records are available but they have to be searched manually. There are 50-60 volumes. When you do an ancestry search and find the newspaper notices just scroll up for the headstone inscriptions. There are a half dozen or more cemeteries in Somers to wade through. Unfortunately the individual volumes are listed but they are not named. However, they are arranged alphabetically.

I do not believe that John Hamlin is buried in the Christopher Avery Cemetery. That small cemetery is well documented and photographed and he is not included in any of the cemetery lists that I am aware of.
Part of the confusion is caused by how Hale documented his transcriptions. He assigned a numerical index for each cemetery documented. In the case of Christopher Avery (1/4 mile from my house) it is Hale #28. There are probably 30 "Hale" cemeteries within a 20 mile radius of my house.
I believe that he is most likely buried in Somers Ct the town where he died. I am very confident that he is not in Christopher Avery.

Thank you for the info on Lila. I believe I made the deletions and additions. Thanks for all you do. Edna Dewey Fink

Yahoo! Glad I could help! Makes the hours of traisping through the cemetery in heat, rain and wind worth it. (Actually the weather doesn't bother me when I am doing that.)
I transferred Frank's memorial to you. If you need anymore let me know.
